Gr1 Producer Ad Valorem Under The Spotlight

Friday, 4th August 2017

Breeders on the lookout for a proven sire this spring will doubtless consider Cangon Stud Farm's dual Gr1-winning stallion Ad Valorem (Danzig-Classy Women, by Relaunch). As a son of breed-shaper Danzig, one of the greatest speed influences anywhere in the world, Ad Valorem has sired over 264 winners in 30 different countries, including 14 individual stakes winners headed by Group 1 winner Capital Gain, Group 2 winners Morton's Fork, Free Wheeling, Meliora and Pied A Terre, as well as the Group 3 winner Detours and the Group 3-winning, Group 1-placed Uate. Some of Ad Valorem's achievements in 2016/17 included:

  • Most individual winners of any active sire-son of Danzig in 2016/17
  • Most individual winners of any sire standing for under $5,000 in 2016/17
  • Sire of the 2YO Gr1 JJ Atkins Stakes winner

A brilliant winner of the Gr1 JJ Atkins Stakes in the winter, Capital Gains (Ad Valorem-Zuzao, by Delzao) is currently enjoying an extended spell to prepare for a summer campaign in Brisbane. His long term aim is the Gr1 Australian Derby in Sydney in the autumn. Ad Valorem represents outstanding value at $4,400 with LFG – Free Return.

Capital Gain Highlights MM 2YOs in Training Sale

Monday, 19th June 2017

Capital Gain's outstanding win in last Saturday's Gr1 JJ Atkins Stakes at Doomben enhanced the record of Australasia's best performing breeze up style auction, the Magic Millions 2YOs in Training Sale. A member of the Paul Butterworth stable, Capital Gain peaked for his grand final covering ground but proving too strong for a quality field of Australasian juveniles. The son of Ad Valorem has rapidly become one of the star youngsters of the country - less than nine months after he was purchased as a ready to run two-year-old for $50,000 by Butterworth and Pharout Syndications. The Gold Coast 2YOs in Training Sale consistently produces high quality gallopers around the world across all levels of the market. "Our vendors are now professional pin-hookers, buying quality yearlings and educating them very well to offer as two-year-olds that are in some cases just a month away from racing," Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox said. "The Group One win on Saturday and the success of international graduates will give us a great platform for the continued growth of a sale which already boasts the biggest buying bench of any breeze up style auction in the region." Cox added: "With the bonus schemes available the attraction for quality fillies for the local market has real potential - with the strong demand for colts from Asia, there's an incredible opportunity in Australasia with fillies." Entries for the 2017 Gold Coast 2YOs in Training Sale close Friday, 28 July.

At Doomben racecourse in Brisbane, former Darley and now Cangon Stud Farm-based dual Gr1-winning stallion Ad Valorem (Danzig-Classy Women, by Relaunch) celebrated an elite race success when 2YO bay gelding Capital Gain (Ad Valorem-Zuzao, by Delzao) landed the biggest prize of his career when scoring an upset win in the $600,000 Gr1 JJ Atkins (1600m) for 2YOs, defeating the fast-finishing Aloisia & Taking Aim. A bargain buy at just $50,000 at the 2016 Magic Millions 2YOs in Training Sale, Capital Gain improved his record to 2 wins and 3 placings (including the Listed BRC Dalrello Stakes) from 8 starts for $452,300 in earnings. Trainer Paul Butterworth, who was celebrating his first Gr1 winner, said Capital Gain would now be spelled and aimed at next year's Gr1 Australian Derby in Sydney. "I knew he was the best horse in the race but I've got to thank the owners for not selling," said Butterworth, referring to an offer made by Hong Kong interests to purchase Capital Gain for $700,000. "The blinkers made the difference and you could see how well he was travelling in the run." He added: "I think he's a Derby horse but the Victorian Derby is too close so he'll have a break and get ready for the AJC Derby."

Waller said Comin' Through would only continue to improve. "I ruled out the early spring with this horse and just targeted him at this race which was what we did with Kermadec. They both had two runs coming into this race and they both performed," Waller told racing.com. "He's got the pedigree which gives me confidence and he does everything that's asked of him." He added: "He is still very much an unfurnished colt so there's a lot to look forward to in the autumn with him."

Cangon Stud Announces 2-For-1 Breeding Offer

Friday, 5th August 2016

Set to commence their second season at Cangon Stud Farm, dual Gr1 winner Ad Valorem (USA) (Danzig-Classy Women, by Relaunch) and Gr2 winner Dubleo (USA) (Southern Halo-Secret Red, by Secretariat) will both stand at a fee of $4,400 (inc GST), while barn mate Choistar (Choisir – Sveldte, by Star Watch), a stakes-winning juvenile, will command a fee of $3,300 (inc GST). Ahead of the 2016 season Cangon Stud Farm’s Jock Mackay has realised the benefits of presenting breeders with opportunities to capitalise on his three well-bred stallions, deciding to introduce a 2-for-1 deal. By sending a mare to any of the stallions this season, the mare owner will then be able to send another mare to any of the stallions for free. With the progeny of all three stallions performing well on the track during the 2015-16 season, highlighted by the exciting Gr2-winning mare Two Blue (Dubleo (USA)), Cangon Stud Farm’s 2016 roster of stallions will afford breeders access at extremely competitive prices.

Fastnet Rock Juvenile Eyes Royal Ascot

Tuesday, 10th May 2016

Meanwhile, 2YO Fastnet Rock colt Lundy may have earned himself a trip to Royal Ascot after winning his maiden in impressive fashion at Leopardstown on Sunday. Trained by Aidan O'Brien for owner and renowned bloodstock agent Demi O'Byrne, Lundy was strong to the line in scoring a dominant 3-length win in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Auction Maiden over 1200 metres. Lundy holds several big race entries including the Gr1 Phoenix Stakes, but assistant trainer Joseph O'Brien revealed the Gr2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot in June was the most likely option. "He's always worked well and showed plenty of pace. As he stepped up his work he got better," O'Brien told Sky Sports. "The Coventry, Windsor Castle and Norfolk Stakes are options and if you put a gun to my head now I would probably say the Coventry. Today was six furlongs and that is probably his trip as there is plenty of pace in him." He added: "He could go for the Marble Hill or a Listed race at Naas, we would look at in between as that is the natural progression as there are no other real races for him." From the stakes-winning Elusive Quality mare Princess Janie, Lundy hails from the same female family as dual Gr1-winning sprinter Ad Valorem.
