Sold For Song Set For Sydney Debut

Thursday, 8th September 2016

Stakes-winning Queensland mare Sold For Song is set to make her southern states debut in Saturday's Gr3 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens. Trainer Kevin Kemp is delighted with Sold For Song (Collate-Buena Chava, by O'Reilly) who hasn't raced since finishing third behind Tivaci in the Gr3 Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m) on 2 July. "She looks great and bolted in when she had a jump out last week," Kemp said. "She only had three and a half weeks in the paddock and she only had a six run preparation last time in." Sold For Song will also run in the Gr2 Golden Pendant (1400m) at Rosehill on 24 September before a decision is made regarding a trip to Melbourne. "If her form in Sydney is good enough she'll then go to Melbourne," Kemp said. Kemp has earmarked the Gr2 Tristarc Stakes on the Gr1 Caulfield Cup as the 4YO main spring targets. "However, if she happens to win the Golden Pennant or the Tristarc Stakes she may go to the (Group 1) Myer Classic," he said.

Tivaci Wins Gr3 Sunshine Coast Guineas

At the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Coolmore's deceased dual Derby-winning shuttler & 6-time Gr1 victor High Chaparral (Sadler's Wells-Kasora, by Dashaan) added a Group quinella when 3YO colt Tivaci (High Chaparral-Breccia, by Fastnet Rock) scored a comfortable 1.3-length win for trainer Mike Moroney in the $125,000 Gr3 Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m) for 3YOs, over fellow 3YO colt High Spirit (High Chaparral-Azumi, by Encosta de Lago) & 3YO filly Sold For Song (Collate-Buena Chava, by O'Reilly). Carrying the same distinctive lime green silks as star mare Lucia Valentina on behalf of owner Lib Petagna, Tivaci improved his record to 4 wins (including the Gr3 CS Hayes Stakes) and 6 placings from 12 starts for $241,300 earnings. Tivaci, who hails from the family of Gr1 Toorak Handicap winner Allez Wonder and is a direct descendant of Melbourne Cup winning mare Rainbird (7th dam), was a NZ$250,000 purchase by Paul Moroney Bloodstock at the 2014 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Princes Farm.

Sold For Song To Back-Up In Guineas

Thursday, 30th June 2016

Trainer Kevin Kemp has confirmed his intention to back-up talented filly Sold For Song in the Gr3 Sunshine Coast Guineas on Saturday, reports Racing Queensland. Sold For Song (Collate-Buena Chava, by O'Reilly) was one of 15 acceptors for the 1600 metre feature and will jump from barrier 12 if Kemp gives the green light. "At the moment she's 100 per cent and if she stays that way she'll run," Kemp said. "I decided to accept with her this morning [Wednesday] but I won't make a final decision about running until Saturday morning." Sold For Song has been a bargain buy for western Queensland cattleman Ian Price who picked her out at the Magic Millions yearling sales for just $2,500. The 3YO daughter of Collate took her prize money earnings to more than $335,000 with her victory in the Listed Daybreak Lover at Eagle Farm last Saturday. Kemp and Price will discuss Sold For Song's future after the Sunshine Coast Guineas with the respective spring carnivals in Sydney and Melbourne on the agenda. "Win, lose or draw she'll go for a break after this run and lan and I will then sit down and go through the programs to see what is available for her in the south," Kemp said. "But I must admit I can't wait for the Brisbane winter carnival to come around again next year." Kemp believes the big stretches at the Sunshine Coast will suit Sold For Song and is expecting another bold showing from the filly. "It's a very even field and the barriers are of no concern to her as she gets back," Kemp said. "I couldn't single out one particular danger to her but she's a rating 90 so she gets into this field quite well at the weights."
