Trust In A Gust Out Of Spring

Wednesday, 19th August 2015

Dual Gr1 winner Trust In A Gust (Keep the Faith-Subtle Breeze, by Storm Cat) will miss the spring carnival after tests revealed the 5YO will remove a bone chip from his stifle, reports Racing.com. Trainer Darren Weir ordered a thorough medical examination following the horse's disappointing first-up performance in the Gr3 Aurie's Star Handicap at Flemington where he finished a well-beaten fifth (5.5-lengths) behind promising sprinter Shiraz. "Something had been worrying him so it is good that we have been able to get to the bottom of it," said Weir. "This probably occurred when he was involved in the incident at the airport back in May when we were taking him to Brisbane but, being in the early stages, didn't show up in the original x-rays." He added: "Regardless of whether he was standing at stud or racing, he would be required to have surgery to remove the chip. The good thing is that it is a straightforward operation and we should be able to get him back into training for the autumn carnival as he is a horse with so much ability." The Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) & Toorak Handicap (1600m) winner will retire to Adam Sangster's Swettenham Stud in Victoria at the conclusion of his racing career.

Trust In A Gust To Race On

Friday, 15th May 2015

Stud duties have been postponed for dual Gr1 winner Trust In A Gust (Keep the Faith-Subtle Breeze, by Storm Cat) who will race on during his 5YO season, reports racing.com. The breeding barn beckoned for the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes & Toorak Handicap winner (see below) after he injured himself when boarding a plane bound for Queensland, but Swettenham Stud principal Adam Sangster and the horse's other stake holders have decided to give the son of Keep The Faith a six-week break before aiming him at the spring. "With so many other stallions heading to stud this season we felt it would be good for the racing public to see this horse continue racing for at least another 12 months," Sangster said. "I went to see the horse on Monday with Darren Weir [trainer] and vet Andrew Cust was also more than happy with his recovery rate from his injury, however we decided that it would be in the best interests of the horse to cease with the Brisbane campaign." He added, "Darren Weir said the horse could be aimed towards a weight-for-age path in the Spring and possibly an international campaign if he measures up to the top level again." Despite the delayed start to Trust In A Gust's stud career, Swettenham's new-look roster for 2014 has been boosted by Gr1 champions Toronado and The Wow Signal along with fellow Irish-bred star Puissance de Lune.

Early Retirement Beckons For Trust In A Gust

Thursday, 14th May 2015

Top-class galloper Trust In A Gust (Keep the Faith-Subtle Breeze, by Storm Cat) may be retired prematurely to stud after being ruled out of the Brisbane Winter Carnival, reports racing.com. The dual Gr1 winner of the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes & Toorak Handicap was scratched from last Saturday's Gr1 BTC Cup (1200m) after he sustained a minor injury when being loaded onto a plane bound for the Sunshine state. Swettenham Director Adam Sangster, who recently purchased the son of Keep The Faith, confirmed he would miss the Gr1 Doomben 10,000 on Saturday week, but said no decision had yet been made regarding the horse's future. "In the best interests of the horse we will not be continuing with this campaign," Sangster told News Limited. "No decision about his future has been made." By exceptional Sunday Silence sprinter Keep The Faith, Trust In A Gust hails from a very strong Swettenham family. His dam, Subtle Breeze (Storm Cat), is a three-quarter sister to Irish Derby and English Oaks winner Balanchine, who was owned by the late Robert Sangster before being sold to Sheikh Mohammed. Trust In A Gust will stand at Swettenham Stud at Nagambie in Victoria at a fee of $12,500 (plus GST).

Swettenham Stud To Stand Trust In A Gust

Friday, 10th April 2015

Victoria's Swettenham Stud has announced Trust In A Gust and Puissance De Lune (Ire) – see below item – will join its new-look roster at Nagambie this year. Trust In A Gust is among Australia's leading Gr1 sprinter-milers and was bred and reared at Swettenham. He will be retired after the Brisbane winter carnival where the targets will include the G1 BTC Cup, G1 Doomben 10,000 and Gr1 Stradbroke Hcp. "He's got a tremendous will to win like all good stallions," Swettenham owner Adam Sangster said. "He's a fighter and he's got an exceptional pedigree – we're excited to welcome him back home." Winner of the Gr1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes and Gr1 Toorak Handicap double, Trust In A Gust hails from a very strong Swettenham family. Adam Sangster bought his dam Subtle Breeze for $140,000 at the dispersal of his father's prized bloodstock assets at Keeneland in November 2007. "She's big and strong, a typical Storm Cat and is a three-quarter sister to Balanchine," he said. "It's a beautiful pedigree and I also felt a sentimental connection to her." Back in 1993, Balanchine won two juvenile races in England by a combined 10-lengths before Robert Sangster sold the filly to Sheikh Mohammed. "She went on to win the Irish Derby and English Oaks and was a pivotal part of Dad's history. Now she's a part of mine through Trust In A Gust." By exceptional Sunday Silence sprinter Keep The Faith (Greta West Stud), Trust In A Gust will stand for a $12,500 (plus GST) service fee at Swettenham Stud and lifetime rights are available for $30,000.

Trust In A Gust Saved For Brisbane

Friday, 27th March 2015

Trainer Darren Weir says there is nothing amiss with Trust In A Gust (Keep the Faith-Subtle Breeze, by Storm Cat) who was nominated for tonight's Gr1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley but didn't accept, reports racing.com. "There's nothing wrong with him, he's beautifully sound," Weir said. "The plan was to run him in the William Reid but he just missed a couple of pieces of work so we've decided to wait as you need to be really fit to resume in a race as strong as that. We'll probably start him off in something easier than the top level and then head to Brisbane." Weir said Trust In A Gust - a dual Gr1 winner of the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes and Toorak Handicap in the spring - may resume on Saturday week in the Listed Manihi Classic (1100m) in Adelaide before heading to Brisbane for three Gr1 races at Doomben, namely the BTC Cup (1200m), Doomben 10,000 (1350m) and Stradbroke Handicap (1350m).

Trust In A Gust Aimed At Stradbroke

Wednesday, 26th November 2014

Dual Gr1 winner Trust In A Gust (Keep the Faith-Subtle Breeze, by Storm Cat)will be aimed at the $2 million Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm during next year's Brisbane Winter Carnival, reports horseracing.com.au. The Darren Weir-trained 4YO stepped up to Gr1 level for the first time during the spring and didn't disappoint, winning both the Gr1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) and Gr1 Toorak Handicap (1600m) at Caulfield. Senior part-owner David Speechley expects Trust In A Gust to derive plenty of benefit from his break and said that Weir had mapped out an Autumn and Winter Carnival plan that will comprise one run in Sydney before heading north for the Gr1 feature in June. "A spell will do him the world of good and when he comes back he's going to have about eight weeks in Warrnambool before he gets him to Ballarat, and then he's going to go to Sydney for probably one run in one of the weight-for-ages and then we are going to head to Queensland," Speechley told Racing.com."He will be set for a Brisbane winter campaign; that could take him to the Stradbroke or that could take him to some weight-for-age races. The Stradbroke would be fantastic because it's worth $2 million this year."Weir has reported that Trust In A Gust is enjoying his break and recovering from the minor injuries that prompted his early exit from the spring carnival."He's good, there's nothing wrong with him, he just wants a good spell, he wants a couple of months off; he obviously had a crook foot and a bit of a joint issue but nothing significant."
