Corumbene Stud Overview

With a strong draft of 15 yearlings for the first sale of 2016, Corumbene Stud are very confident that the draft will appeal to all up at the Gold Coast in January.

Having previously sold some outstanding yearlings at the sale, one of the most noteworthy results for Corumbene Stud saw a More Than Ready colt sell to Denise Martin’s Star Thoroughbreds. Racing as Sebring, the colt would go on to win the Gr1 Golden Slipper coming from near last before winning the Group 1 Sires’ Produce Stakes. Retiring to Widden Stud, with his oldest runners just five, Sebring is the sire of last season’s Horse of the Year Dissident, as well as $7 million plus earner Criterion.

In 2016, Corumbene Stud’s highlight yearling could in fact be their first through the ring. Described by Stud Manager Toby Frazer as an “outstanding type that buyers will love,” Lot 70 is a Sepoy filly out of the Redoute’s Choice mare Brothers Dream, herself a half-sister to Group 1 winner Charge Forward.

With a mix of both unproven and proven stallions within the draft, the progeny of Snitzel continue to fire on the track and the draft has a pair of colts and a filly by the Arrowfield Stud-based stallion. Lot 337, a flashy marked Snitzel colt out of the Listed-winning General Nediym mare Isurava comes from an outstanding family that has produced the Gr2 Magic Night Stakes winner Ichihara and her ill-fated full-sister Au Chocolat, a winner of the Listed Gold Coast Stocking. Counting the Champion Tie The Knot and his Gr1-winning dam Whisked as close relations, this colt has special qualities and will appeal. The other Snitzel colt is out of a Danzero half-sister to Gr1 Blue Diamond winner True Jewels, who was herself a graduate of Corumbene Stud. Set to sell as Lot 392, the colt is likely to be one of the stars of the draft, with Corumbene Stud’s George Altomonte describing him as “a very good colt from a great family.”

From the same family as the above mentioned colt is Lot 259, a filly by Champion first-season sire Hinchinbrook out of Gamble, an Encosta de Lago three-parts sister to the stakes performer Fashion. An unraced daughter of the multiple Gr2-winning, Gr1-placed Wager, the filly is bred on a similar cross to that of this season’s Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes winner Japonisme as well as South Africa’s Gr1 Golden Horseshoe winner Musir.

Sire of the 2011 Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Karuta Queen, Not A Single Doubt will be represented in Corumbene Stud’s draft by a colt (Lot 89) as well as a filly (Lot 445). The first of the duo to head through the ring is the second foal of the More Than Ready mare Cheetara, herself a half-sister to the multiple Japanese stakes performer Gaburin, a daughter of dual Gr1 winner Dashing Eagle. “A very nice colt – a great mover and well-bodied,” enthused Frazer.

The other by the sire is an impressive bay filly who is sure to create plenty of interest. Out of a Secret Savings mare Misshiraz, just like Gr1 winners Samaready, Secret Admirer and Almalad, the filly is the first foal of her multiple city-winning dam.

All in all, Corumbene Stud’s draft of 15 yearlings offers buyers the opportunity to access numerous different stallions with yearlings accessible at all price levels.
