New Zealand Bloodstock’s eagerly anticipated showpiece – the National Yearling Sales Series features an outstanding catalogue of 1,266 yearlings. Carried through six days of selling in January 2020, New Zealand will capture the attention of the thoroughbred world as prospective buyers flock to Karaka to inspect the quality yearlings on offer.
The thrilling week will kick off at Ellerslie Racecourse on Saturday 25 January with an action-packed twilight race meeting, featuring the $1m Karaka Million 2YO (1200m), the $1m Karaka Million 3YO Classic (1600m) along with the $100,000 CollinsonForex Karaka Cup and three Group races. The talented youngsters lining up for 2YO feature and their first share in $1 million were walking through the Sale ring just 12 months ago.
Karaka 2020 marks the third year of the refreshed Book 1, 2 and 3 format. The opening session of Book 1 will start at an earlier time of 11am on Sunday 26 January, in line with other days through the week, concluding on Tuesday 28 January.
In another change introduced this year, Book 3 will take place on the afternoon of Friday 31 January. 115 yearlings will go under the hammer immediately after the conclusion of the Book 2 Sale, rounding off a terrific week of selling.
