Jungle Ruler Overview
Jungle Ruler started his racing career as a 2-year-old, with his best finish a 2nd in a 1200m maiden. He saluted the judge later that year as a 3-year-old and started a wonderful journey for his connections with multiple wins coming every calendar year for the next 6 years. He was a tough, durable racehorse, that retired sound when he was 9 years old after 115 starts, 20 wins and 24 placings, amassing more than $848,000 in prize money.
He was a versatile sprinter winning from 1000m to 1600m, on all types of ground but he was well known as a bold front runner, with grey mane and tail streaming, and a catch me if you can attitude. Jungle Ruler was twice stakes placed so could mix it with the best of them.
Jungle Ruler’s sire, Lion Hunter, a Group 2 placed sprinter, sired 17 stakes winners in the 6 seasons that he stood, with a Winners to Runners strike rate of 72%. Jungle Rulers dam, Calista, was the winner of her first 2 races and was by the influential speed sire, Zedative. There is plenty of speed to burn in this pedigree. A few of the progeny of Lion Hunter that have gone on to stakes success are Leone Chiara (dam of stallions Star Witness and Nostradamus), Lovely Jubly (dam of world class sprinter Chautauqua), Ferocity (stallion - standing in New Zealand) and Gold Edition.
Jungle Ruler has now stood for 5 seasons at Bombora Downs. Fillies and colts alike, his progeny are getting rave reviews from breakers and trainers, describing them as tough horses with a bit of attitude. His eldest are 3-year-olds, with Jungle Queen winning her first start over 1000m in the Spring of the 2017/18 racing season and subsequently placing in town. He has had a handful of other starters, all showing some ability but also finding trouble. Experience will help in that department.
Jungle Ruler is best placed as a “breed to race” stallion, though there has been plenty of interest when progeny do go to the sales. He is producing good workman like sons and daughters that will bring a lot of fun to their connections when they hit the race track. Jungle Ruler was a legend of the turf and was the punters pal with his grey coat and familiar red blinkers. His progeny seem to be taking a lot from their dad.

Bombora Downs Excited About Season of FirstsMon, 25 Jun 2018
Bombora Downs has had a few firsts since last season, including the arrival of the first foals of Gr2 winner and Gr1 Caulfield Cup runner-up Dandino. The son of Dansili's progeny are correct, strong looking foals who have inherited their father's striking good looks and great attitude. Former Champion New Zealand 2YO Warhorse also saw the first of his yearlings offered for sale, with a top price of $97,500, another at $75,000 and the list goes on. Warhorse will have a few headed to the Ready to Run sales, so confidence is high that they will be early 2YO runners. Jungle Ruler also sired his first winner and Lago Delight keeps producing good, honest winners nearly every week. Bombora Downs is also excited about its new stallion recruit, De Gaulle. By world-class sire Exceed And Excel from the dual Group 1 winning mare Response (Charge Forward), the beautifully bred De Gaulle is a half-brother to this year's brilliant Group 1 Golden Slipper winner Estijaab. - Warhorse - $7,700

First Winner For Bombora's Jungle RulerWed, 4 Oct 2017
Following on from some very promising trial form, Jungle Queen not only launched her racetrack career with a strong win in the 3YO Fillies Maiden at Echuca on Monday but in doing so became the debut winer for Victorian Stud Bombora Downs' sire Jungle Ruler (Lion Hunter–Calista, by Zeditave). The grey iron horse, who started 115 times for 20 wins and 24 placings, including stakes placings in the Gr3 MRC Sundown Stakes, Gr3 Moonga Stakes and Listed VRC Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes, has being getting great reports from breakers and trainers and additional winners shouldn't be far away. Homebred Jungle Queen is the fifth to race from Made of Gold mare Tinge of Gold and second winner following her God's Own half-sister Friday Saviour. It's a solid family that also includes stakes-placed geldings Parhelia, Don't Say Goodbye and NZ Gr2 runner-up Blizzard. Third dam Jalapa was classy enough to take third in the Gr3 Longchamp Prix de la Nonette. Trained by Wangaratta based Christopher Davis and ridden by Rebeka Prest, Jungle Queen defeated a large field which included some handy types, none more so than High Chaparral filly Fern, sixth placed only recently in May behind Saturday's Gr2 Thousand Guineas Prelude winner Booker.
First Foal For Jungle RulerTue, 9 Sep 2014
Last week was a busy week for foals at Bombora Downs and among them was the first of the eagerly awaited Jungle Ruler (Lion Hunter-Calista, by Zeditave) foals. Jungle Ruler's first foal was a beautiful grey filly from the Reset mare Reincur who was born in the wee hours of Monday, 25 August. "Given that Reincur was a maiden I'd have to say I'm delighted with the foal she has produced," said Bombora's Christoph Bruechert. "The filly is bigger than I was expecting, strong bodied, grey like her father and she's showing signs of having inherited his very determined nature." Jungle Ruler was a crowd favourite whose bold, front-running racing style helped him build a career record of 20 wins and 24 placings, including the Gr3 Moonga Stakes & Gr3 Sandown Stakes, for over $800,000 prize-money. Jungle Ruler retired to stud last year and was well supported by breeders seeking a tough, sound stallion with a solid pedigree at an affordable price. By Danehill's prolific stakes-producing son Lion Hunter, Jungle Ruler's third dam is Gr1 Prix de Diane (French Oaks) winner Lacovia, dam of Gr1 sprinter and sire Tobougg. Jungle Ruler is also a direct descendant of Buckpasser mare Hopespringseternal, who is best known as the mother of outstanding stallion Miswaki (sire of Galileo's dam Urban Sea).

Stud Drums Beat For Jungle Ruler At Bombora DownsWed, 22 May 2013
In further stud news, Christoph Bruechert's Mornington Peninsula based Bombora Downs has announced that one of Victoria's most consistent and hardy gallopers of the past six years in Jungle Ruler (Lion Hunter-Calista, by Zeditave) will join its stallion roster for the 2013 season. A stakes placed winner of 20 races and over $875,000 in prizemoney, Jungle Ruler was versatile, talented but especially durable and courageous. His peak performance was when third in the Gr3 Moonga Stakes (behind Gr3 winner Rothera and triple Gr1 winner Sniper's Bullet). Jungle Ruler was placed three times at stakes level and competed at Gr1 level in the 2009 MRC Rupert Clarke Stakes won by dual Gr1 winner and Blue Gum Farm stallion Turffontein. Bruechert told AAP this week, "If a horse's courage could be translated to human endeavours, then Jungle Ruler is the soldier I would want to be standing with in battle ... He was a born warrior ... It's what made him a crowd favourite whenever he ran. He gave punters a great run for their money and it is now those admirable qualities as a racehorse that I expect many rank-and-file breeders will seek in a stallion ... It's very important - competitiveness and courage are highly inheritable traits that should make Jungle Ruler a very attractive option to the many owner-breeders." Jungle Ruler's sire Lion Hunter (by Danehill) has made a significant impact at stud with his first 6 crops reaping 17 stakes winners. Jungle Ruler will stand his first season at a fee of $2,500 + GST.
