STRYKER (AUS)(Fastnet Rock-Laetitia, by Woodman)
Basham Thoroughbreds, NSW. Fee: $5,500

Stryker Overview

Dynamic Riverina-based operation Basham Thoroughbreds has pulled off a coup of sorts this season and will stand Fastnet Rock's impressive young sire-son Stryker.

Having commenced his stud career at Victoria's Three Bridges, Stryker has had the early success in his initial 4 crops to strongly suggest he will have an ongoing impact both in a high W/R capacity as well as in a stakes-winner producing realm.

Statistically he is very sound. 50 % W/R, 9 stakes horses, 2 SW and a Gr1 winner, for total progeny earnings totalling $6.6 million. While in the yearling market, his progeny have sold for as high as $220,000 at an average as high as $43,000. Consider this data on a very reasonable 2018 service fee of $5,500 inc GST.

His progeny are also adaptable, ranging from Gr1 New Zealand Derby winner (2400m) Rangipo to Listed winning sprinter Strykum (1050m - 1200m). Other leading stakes performers include Laden, Persian Princess, Luen on Eagle, She is Stryking, Miss Loren, Galvarino and Miss Nymeria.

On the track, Stryker was high class and highly competitive in the famous Ingham silks in the early 2YO Group contests with a 3rd in the Gr2 Pago Pago Stakes and 4th in the Gr2 Todman. He then bounced back to top drawer company as a 3YO with a win at Gr3 level in the BTC Classic and 3rd in the Gr1 Galaxy.

His pedigree also inspires confidence. By Champion Sire and Sire of Sires Fastnet Rock (Smart Missile, Foxwedge, Wanted, Your Song), his dam line is also exceptional, descending to one of the most elite branches in the Australian Studbook in that of Joy And Fun (Tuesday Joy, Sunday Joy, Arlington, Euphoria, Christmas Tree etc.) Stryker's dam Laetitia has also produced stakes place getters Exceed and Exalt, Puerto Bonus and the athletic Seeking Attention.

Stryker is the perfect breed-to-race option for 2018 breeders. Add that he's BOBS qualified and the scene is set for racetrack success.

  • Derby Winner Aiming at Hawke's Bay Triple Crown

    Tue, 18 Jul 2017

Cambridge trainer Tony Pike has his sights set on the Hawke's Bay carnival with New Zealand Derby winner Rangipo (Stryker-Holloway Castle, by Zabeel), reports NZ racing Desk. "We'll be entering Rangipo for all three of the Group Ones at Hastings," Pike said. "He's starting to breeze up now and hopefully he will come up quickly enough and at this stage I am very happy with him." Pike added: "As long as he progresses well, he'll be going for the first two and ideally all three." Rangipo won three times at Gr2 level before defeating What's The Story and the Pike-trained Raghu in the Derby, but was then unplaced in his Australian debut at Doomben. He was put aside until last spring and was again turned out after twice finishing out of the money in Melbourne. Rangipo returned in much better form in the autumn when a first-up third in the Gr3 Darley Plate before finishing sixth in the Gr2 Japan-New Zealand International Trophy. "We've had a few issues with him, but he seems to be coming back nicely now," Pike said. "We'll give him a couple of jump-outs and probably a barrier trial before Hawke's Bay."

  • Three Bridges Announces Fees

    Fri, 12 May 2017

Three Bridges Thoroughbreds have confirmed the 2017 service fees for exciting young sire Unencumbered, whose first runners will be seen in the spring, and on proven Group One producing sire Stryker. A winner of the Magic Millions 2YO Classic, Unencumbered (Testa Rossa) has covered more mares in each of his three seasons at stud which is somewhat unusual and serves as a real vote of confidence in his potential. “Unencumbered and Dundeel were the only sires in their third year to serve not only an increase in mares, but more than their first year which is a wonderful vote of confidence from breeders,” said Toby Liston. “History shows that when the market backs stallions in their third year with more mares than their first year with strength it’s generally a good indicator of greater things to come.” Unencumbered will stand this spring at a fee of $11,000. Meanwhile, the superbly bred Stryker (Fastnet Rock) already has a Gr1 winner on the board in Rangipo and is producing numerous winners every week including smart 3YO Perpetual Crisis, who won the $250,000 Inglis Dash at Flemington. “He represents great value for breeders looking to have some sales ring fun and breed some good looking progeny with the best temperaments ever,” added Liston. Stryker has had his fee reduced for the first time this year and is priced at $6,600.

  • Royal Star Wins Listed Natasha Stakes

    Mon, 20 Mar 2017

At Ascot racecourse in Perth, Western Australia, Arrowfield Stud's multiple Champion Australian Sire Redoute's Choice (Danehill-Shantha's Choice, by Canny Lad) added a black-type success when 3YO filly Royal Star (Redoute's Choice-Star Encounter, by Jeune) scored an impressive front-running 2 length win for trainers Grant & Alana Williams in the $100,000 Listed Natasha Stakes (2200m) for 3YO fillies, over fellow fillies Vain Stryker (Authorized-Violet Vain, by Kenvain) & stable-mate Very Tempting (Redoute's Choice-Fit and Ready, by More Than Ready). A homebred for prominent WA owner and breeder Bob Peters, Royal Star improved her record to 3 wins from 4 starts for $100,000 earnings.

  • Tauranga Next for Rangipo

    Thu, 9 Mar 2017

Last season's Gr1 New Zealand Derby winner Rangipo (Stryker-Holloway Castle, by Zabeel) is scheduled to make two more appearances this campaign, reports NZ Racing Desk. The 4YO resumed last Saturday with a bold third in the Gr3 Darley Plate at Ellerslie and he will step up to a mile next time out. "It was great to see him back and it was a super run," trainer Tony Pike said. "At this stage he'll go to Tauranga for the Japan/NZ Trophy and then to the Easter [Gr1 Easter Stakes]. He'll have a break after that and we'll get him ready for the Hawke's Bay carnival in the spring."

  • Splurge Wins Gr3 Darley Plate

    Mon, 6 Mar 2017

At Auckland's Ellerslie Racecourse in New Zealand, Waikato Stud's Cox Plate winning sire Savabeel (Zabeel-Savannah Success, by Success Express) added a group success when 4YO gelding Splurge (Savabeel-Splashing Out, by O'Reilly) scored by 1.3-lengths for Te Aukau Racing's trainers Stephen Autridge & Jamie Richards in the NZ$100,000 Gr3 Darley Plate (1200m). Runner-up was 4YO mare Volks Lightning (Volksraad-Next Century, by Stravinsky) who finished ahead of 4YO gelding Rangipo (Stryker-Holloway Castle, by Zabeel). Saturday's victory was the first at black-type level for promising Splurge who took his ultra- consistent record to 6 wins & 2 runners-up from 10 starts for NZ$127,275 earnings. The son of multiple champion sire Savabeel appears to be well on his way to potentially justifying his NZ$500,000 purchase price at the 2014 NZB National Yearling Sales Series where he was consigned by Waikato Stud. Dam, Splashing Out, won the Gr3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes, and is also the dam of Hong Kong Gr1-placed Packing Pins and Gr2 Angus Armanasco winner Shopaholic.

  • Rangipo Spelled

    Thu, 2 Jun 2016

New Zealand Derby winner Rangipo (Stryker-Holloway Castle, by Zabeel) has been sent to the spelling paddock and will be aimed at the spring carnival in Melbourne, reports the informant.co.nz. A winner of 7 of his 13 starts, the son of Stryker enjoyed a stellar domestic season with victories in the Gr1 New Zealand Derby, Gr2 Northern Guineas, Gr2 Waikato Guineas, and Gr2 Avondale Guineas. Rangipo then made his Australian debut when resuming with a slightly below par 9th place finish in the Gr3 Fred Best Classic at Doomben two weeks ago. The Fred Best was intended as a preparatory run for the Gr2 Queensland Guineas at Eagle Farm on Saturday week, but trainer Tony Pike has decided to put the gelding aside until the spring.  "We've turned him out and he'll have a nice spell in Queensland before he heads down to Melbourne," Pike said. "We were just on the back foot a little bit trying to get him ready for the Queensland Guineas, and in the end we decided it would be best to take the cautious approach and save him for the spring."

I heard prior to the sale that Three Bridges had a really nice colt coming here and I was really keen to come and have a look at him," said Eden. "I bought a Stryker [for $100,000] last year from Royale Harmony that all the top judges were on and I think this colt could even be better than him..."

  • First Winner For Therock

    Tue, 3 Nov 2015

The dominance of sons of Fastnet Rock at stud is widely acknowledged through the deeds of last season's Champion First Season Sire by prize money, Hinchinbrook - sire of star 3YO and Gr1 Caulfield Guineas winner Press Statement; last season's Champion First Season Sire by winners, Rothesay; and stake- producing sires Wanted and Stryker. Add to these the two exciting freshman sires in Foxwedge and Smart Missile, both of whom have already produced impressive trial winners in Australia, and it is obvious that Fastnet Rock has emerged as a sire-of-sires who is creating his own dynasty, very much in the mould of his own sire, the immortal Danehill. Now there's a new sire son of Fastnet Rock that has produced a winner from just his fourth starter - Therock (Fastnet Rock-Bumps, by Scenic), who stands at Christoph Bruechert's Bombora Downs Stud on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula. Therock sired his first winner at Kilmore on Sunday when 3YO gelding Oz Rock (Therock-Remiss, by Johannesburg) scored impressively over 1200m for leading trainer Darren Weir. Therock is an exceptional looking stallion and was an expensive purchase from Fastnet Rock's first crop. He had an abundance of ability under the care of leading Sydney trainer Gerald Ryan, and after winning two races in Sydney as a 3YO was set to become Fastnet Rock's first Gr1 winner when favourite for the Gr1 New Zealand Derby but sadly injury prevented him from starting in the race. Bruechert continues to be amazed at the quality of foals that Therock throws. "You can't but help but be impressed with his foals", he said. " They are strong, muscular and athletic, just like Therock. He's really quite an exceptional stallion". Progeny of Therock have been secured by leading Gr1 trainers such as Darren Weir, Gerald Ryan, Robbie Laing, Robert Smerdon and Peter Gelagotis. While Therock may not have won the major stakes race he was expected to do, he has been quickly identified as an exceptional option as a "breed to race" sire in Victoria. Standing for just $3,850, Therock offers breeders an opportunity to tap into the bloodlines of the world's hottest stallion for a faction of the price of other Fastnet sons.
