At Ascot in Perth, WA, Arrowfield Stud's multiple Champion Australian Sire Redoute's Choice (Danehill-Shantha's Choice, by Canny Lad) added a Group race success when 8YO Australian-bred gelding Rock Magic (Redoute's Choice-Rockabubble, by Bubble Gum Fellow) showed why he is considered the pre-eminent sprinter in West Australia when outclassing his rivals in the $150,000 Gr3 Roma Cup (1200m) for 3YO+, defeating stable-mates Battle Hero & Durendal. The victory saw Rock Magic become the first horse in 25 years to win back-to-back Roma Cups and improved his record to 15 wins (including the Gr3 Belmont Stakes, Gr3 Prince of Wales Stakes, Gr3 Colonel Reeves & Gr3 Roma Cup) and 12 placings (including the Gr1 Winterbottom Stakes) from 48 starts for $1,309,316 in earnings. Bred by Arrowfield’s partnership with John Leaver, Rock Magic began his career with Paul Messara who prepared him to win four races before his sale as a late 4YO to the Gangemi stable. William Pike has been booked to ride top WA sprinter Rock Magic in Saturday's Group 3 Roma Cup (1200m) at Ascot. Rock Magic, who was last seen finishing fifth (beaten 3.5 lengths) behind Hellbent in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on 23 March, will be joined by in-form stable-mates Battle Hero and Durendal in the race. "If all goes well this week, all three should be big chances," trainer Chris Gangemi told the West Australian. "Rock Magic is going better than ever. Timely Gr1 Updates for South Island Sale

Recent Group 1-performing Kiwi-breds have provided a timely boost to several pedigree pages, along with other outstanding performances, for the upcoming New Zealand Bloodstock South Island Sale to be held at the Riding for the Disabled Building at the Canterbury Agricultural Park in Christchurch on 20 April. Mansfield Farm will offer a colt by Ocean Park (Lot 9) who is closely related to recent Gr1 New Zealand Oaks winner Savvy Coup (Savabeel). He is also related to Gr2 Japan-New Zealand International Trophy winner Ocean Emperor (Zabeel) and multiple stakes winner Battle Hero (Stratum) who recently claimed two black-type sprint races back-to-back. Another star 3YO is Grunt (O'Reilly) has made headlines in Australia with a last start win in the Group 1 Australian Guineas. The final field has been declared and the barrier draw conducted for the $1 million Gr1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) to be run at Ascot in Perth, West Australia this Saturday. Malaguerra tightened his grip on favouritism for the $1 million sprint feature after drawing the inside gate at Tuesday afternoon's barrier draw. The Peter Gelagotis-trained 5YO, who is seeking his third Gr1 win after victories in the Manikato Stakes & BTC Cup, is currently $3.20 with TAB ahead of Terravista at $3.40, and Takedown at $8. Gr1 winner Perfect Reflection was given an easy time when second (beaten 11.5 lengths) to stable-mate Battle Hero, with Neverland finishing in third, while dual Gr1 placegetter Disposition was third behind stable-mate Silverstream and talented sprinter Smoko in another heat. "We had a few trial better than expected," Peters said. "Battle Hero was good and Silversteam improved." He added: "They're all ready to go to the races."
