Clearly Innocent gave his Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale bound half-sister a timely boost when he bounded to a powerful win in Saturday's Gr1 Kingsford-Smith Cup (1300m) at Eagle Farm. The Kris Lees-trained 5YO sent his earnings soaring past $1.5 million when he beat a classy field in the $700,000 feature by three lengths. It is the second straight stakes success for Clearly Innocent since the catalogue was printed for the 2017 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale. His half-sister Champagne Kisses (Onemorenomore) is catalogued as Lot 676 for the Gold Coast-based auction. Champagne Kisses will be presented by JD Thoroughbreds, and will be housed in the Chester Barn. She is set to go under the hammer during tomorrow's opening session of the National Broodmare Sale. Also set to go under the hammer on day one is Saturday's Gr3 Lord Mayor's Cup winner Col 'n' Lil. A member of the in-form Toowoomba stables of Ben Currie, the daughter of Bradbury's Luck showed great fight in the home straight to hold out her rivals for a gutsy win. A gallant third placegetter in the same race was Elle Lou, a proven group winning daughter of Snitzel who is catalogued as Lot 697 from the draft of Attunga Stud. Col 'n' Lil improved her record to 8 wins (including the Listed Weetwood Handicap) and 13 placings (including the Gr2 BRC The Roses & Listed BRC Tails Handicap) from 35 starts for $497,000 earnings. Trainer Ben Currie commented: "She's always been a good mare but she's racing even better now," he told Racing Queensland Webnews. "I thought she might be in trouble 50 metres out but she kept fighting."
At Doomben racecourse in Brisbane, Arrowfield Stud's multiple stakes-winning stallion Not A Single Doubt (Redoute's Choice-Single's Bar, by Rory's Jester) added a black-type success when smart 4YO mare Single Gaze (Not a Single Doubt-Redaluca's Gaze, by Intergaze) made a welcome return to the winner's circle when landing the $100,000 Listed Tails Stakes (1600m) for 3YO+, defeating Col 'n' Lil & Cantbuybetter. Purchased by her trainer Nick Olive for $70,000 at the 2014 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Redbank North, Single Gaze improved her record to 4 wins (including the Gr1 Vinery Stud Stakes & Gr3 Arrowfield Kembla Grange Classic) and 6 placings (including the Gr2 ATC Surround Stakes & Gr3 Neville Sellwood Stakes) from 18 starts for $1,258,300 earnings. Olive said Single Gaze will progress to the Gr2 Hollindale Stakes (1800m) at the Gold Coast en route to the Gr1 Doomben Cup (2000m) on 20 May.
At Toowoomba in the Darling Downs region of Queensland, 5YO entire Jumbo Prince (Outback Prince-Maggie Jain, by Lujain) & 5YO mare Col 'n' Lil (Bradbury's Luck-Jyler, by Street Cry) shared top honours when dead-heating for first in the $150,000 Listed Weetwood Handicap (1200m) for 3YO+, over 6YO gelding Siegfried (Jet Spur-Classic Covet, by St Covet). Jumbo Prince, an $8,000 purchase at the 2013 Magic Millions QTIS Yearling Sale, improved his record to 11 wins and 15 placings from 39 starts for $816,300 earnings, while Col 'n' Lil improved her record to 7 wins and 12 placings (including the Gr2 BRC The Roses) rom 32 starts for $395,000 earnings.
