NZ Breds Nominated for Hong Kong Awards

New Zealand-bred horses have enjoyed a great season in Hong Kong, winning six of the 24 stakes races, and have been rewarded with nominations in every category in the Hong Kong Champion awards, reports NZ Racing Desk. In total, New Zealand-bred horses won 227 races for total earnings of HK$309,878,295. Four have been nominated for the Hong Kong Horse of the Year title, namely triple Group 1 winner Beauty Generation, quality sprinter D B Pin, Hong Kong Derby winner Ping Hai Star, and 2015-16 Hong Kong Horse of the Year Werther. Meanwhile, Pick Number One and Ugly Warrior are both nominees for Champion Griffin and Fifty Fifty joins Ping Hai Star and Pingwu Spark as New Zealand-bred nominees for Most Improved Horse. Winners of the 2017/18 Champion Awards will be announced at The Hong Kong Jockey Club Champion Awards presentation ceremony which will be held on 13 July at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Hong Kong.

Mr Stunning Wins Gr2 Jockey Club Sprint

At Sha Tin racecourse in Hong Kong, Darley's former Champion Australian Sire Exceed And Excel (Danehill-Patrona, by Lomond) added a Group race success when 5YO Australian-bred gelding Mr Stunning (Exceed And Excel-With Fervour, by Dayjur) lived up to his name when unleashing a brilliant sprint to win the HK$4 million Gr2 Jockey Club Sprint (1200m), defeating Amazing Kids & D B Pin. Purchased by Magnus Equine for $250,000 from the 2014 NZB Premier Yearling Sale from the draft of Lyndhurst Stud, Mr Stunning improved his record to 9 wins (including the Gr2 Premier Bowl & Gr2 HKJC Sprint Cup) and 3 placings (including the HKJC Chairman’s Sprint Prize) from 15 starts for HK$16,478,600 in earnings.

Dashing Fellow Wins Gr3 National Day Cup

At Sha Tin racecourse in Hong Kong, Jindera Park's Gr1-winning stallion Duporth (Red Ransom-Staging, by Success Express) added a Group success when 6YO Australian-bred gelding Dashing Fellow (Duporth-Moon Fever, by Fusaichi Pegasus) scored by a neck in the HK$3 million Gr3 National Day Cup (1000m), defeating Not Listenin'tome & D B Pin. Purchased for $160,000 by George Moore Bloodstock at the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Kitchwin Hills, Dashing Fellow improved his record to 8 wins and 10 placings from 35 starts for HK$12,917,700 in earnings.
