Gr1 Winterbottom Stakes Field & Barriers

The final field has been declared and the barrier draw conducted for the 66th running of the $1 million Gr1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) at Ascot racecourse in Perth on Saturday. A field of 13 horses will contest the West Australia’s flagship weight-for-age sprint, with local star State Solicitor the current TAB fixed odds favourite at $3. Next in the market is the Adelaide mare Viddora at $4.20, veteran WA speedster Rock Magic at $6.50 and last-start Gr1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes winner Santa Ana Lane at $7.50. All other runner are at double figure odds. The final field is:

At Ascot racecourse in Perth, Yarradale Stud shuttler War Chant (War Chant (Danzig-Hollywood Wildcat, by Kris S) added a Group success when 4YO bay mare Dainty Tess (War Chant-Classic Smile, by Bletchley Park) let down with a brilliant turn of foot to open her stakes account in the $150,000 Gr3 Prince Of Wales Stakes (1000m) for 3YO+, defeating Profit Street & Dream Lifter. Dainty Tess, who was passed in for $25,000 at the 2015 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale, improved her record to 10 wins and 13 placings from 26 starts for $741,200 in earnings.

Man Booker, who was a $25,000 purchase by his trainer Daniel Morton at the 2014 Magic Millions Perth Winter Yearling Sale from the draft of Korilya Stud, improved his record to 7 wins (including the Gr2 WA Guineas & Listed Pinjarra Classic) and 1 placing (the Listed WATC Fairetha Stakes) from 13 starts for $680,080 earnings.

From a daughter of Gr1 Orlando Wines (now known as the Gr1 Coolmore Classic) winner Satin Sand, Great Shot is a three-quarter brother to Melbourne stakes winning mare Gawne. He is also a half brother to the dam of Casino Dancer, a multiple Group winner also sold by Magic Millions.
