Egyptian Symbol Ready To Make Mark

Wednesday, 11th July 2018

Meanwhile, stakes-wining and Group-placed mare Egyptian Symbol (Stratum-Our Egyptian Raine, by Desert Sun) showed she could be in for a prosperous campaign when finishing third to her stable-mate Music Magnate in a 904 metre trial at Rosehill on Monday. Trainer Bjorn Baker said the well-bred daughter of Group 1 winning sprinter Egyptian Raine would also be served by an unnamed stallion in the spring. "We will see how she goes in her next trial but there will be plenty of suitable fillies and mares races for her in the spring," Baker told Sky Sports Radio. "She will be served at some stage so we are also mindful of that. She's not too far off a million dollars in earnings so if we can get to that it would be a great result." Baker added: "At this stage I think she is going well and I think she can really be competitive in the spring." The Cressfield-owned Egyptian Symbol has hitherto won 6 of her 23 starts, including the Group 3 Nivison Stakes, for over $792,000 in earnings. Click here to watch Egyptian Symbol's trial.

Overseas Plans for Viddora

Monday, 15th January 2018

Trainer Lloyd Kennewell revealed he is contemplating an overseas campaign for top sprinting mare Viddora after she scored a brilliant win in the Magic Millions Snippets (1200m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday. Viddora (I Am Invincible-Snow Flight, by Colombia), who was having her first start since winning the Gr1 Winterbottom Stakes in Perth in December, was simply a class above her rivals in registering a dominant 2.25 length win over Snitzkraft & Egyptian Symbol in the $1 million feature. "She's got a devastating turn of foot and she pulled their pants down today," Kennewell said. "We ultimately want to get to The Everest and we've been invited overseas as well so she's got options but we've also got Adelaide and two million dollar races in her own backyard." Purchased by Kennewell for $40,000 at the 2014 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale from the draft of Riva Ridge Stud, Viddora is a direct descendant of the influential broodmare Derna (FR), meaning she hails from the same female family as multiple champion New Zealand sire Zabeel, Australian Guineas winner Baryshnikov, and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winning mother and son Detroit and Carnegie. Saturday's victory advanced her record to 8 wins (including the Gr1 Winterbottom Stakes, Gr3 RN Irwin Stakes & Listed Lightning Stakes) and 7 placings (including the Gr1 Moir Stakes, Gr1 Ubet Classic, Listed SAJC Manihi Classic & Listed BRC Falvelon Handicap) from 24 starts for $2,076,180 in earnings.

Trainer Bjorn Baker told Sky Racing that Egyptian Symbol would heads towards the rich Magic Millions raceday at the Gold Coast on January 13. "She is a high-quality mare and has won a lot of good races so it's a big thrill to get her back in winning form," he said. "We'll have a look at how she is and decide whether to run her in the fillies and mares race or the sprint but I'm thinking the sprint race." Egyptian Symbol, who was retained to race by her breeder Cressfield Farm after she was passed in for $90,000 at the 2014 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale, improved her record to 6 wins (including the Gr3 ATC Nivison Stakes, Gr3 ATC PJ Bell Stakes, Listed ATC Darby Munro Stakes & Listed ATC Fireball Stakes) and 8 placings from 20 starts for $662,255 in earnings. She is the seventh foal to race for 8-time stakes winner and Gr1 Railway Stakes (NZ) winner Our Egyptian Raine who has also produced Gr1 HKJC Chairman's Sprint Prize placegetter Strathmore.

Mahuta Wins Magic Millions 3YO Guineas

Monday, 11th January 2016

At the Gold Coast in Queensland, retired Arrowfield Stud stallion & former Champion Australian Sire Flying Spur (Danehill-Rolls, by Mr Prospector) added a restricted stakes success when 3YO colt Mahuta (Flying Spur-Vahine, by Zabeel) scored by 1-length for trainer Darren Weir in the $2 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) for 3YOs, over 3YO fillies Single Gaze (Not a Single Doubt-Redaluca's Gaze, by Intergaze) & Egyptian Symbol (Stratum-Our Egyptian Raine, by Desert Sun). "It's easy to say after the event but if you went on his form it was good for a race like this but it was his first time the reverse way, he had the outside barrier and a bit of weight," Weir said. "But after they'd gone 300 metres all of that was out of the way because he looked to be on his right leg and he got across into a nice rhythm. He was getting tired late but he was entitled to do that." Mahuta, who was purchased by Weir for $35,000 at the 2014 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale from the draft of Redbank North, took his record to 5 wins (including the Gr2 Sandown Guineas, Gr3 Carbine Club Stakes & Listed Gothic Stakes) and 1 placing from 7 starts for $1,567,460 earnings.
