At Arawa Park in New Zealand, 6YO Irish-bred gelding Gentil Tonton (Yeats-Champaka, by Caerleon) claimed the first stakes victory of his career when settling t the rear of the field and arriving with a well-timed run in the $65,000 Listed Taumarunui Gold Cup (2200m) for 3YO+, defeating Pump Up The Volume & Jochen Rindt. Gentil Tonton, who won two races in his native Ireland before arriving in Australia, improved his record to 6 wins and 4 placings (including the Gr3 Rotorua Cup) from 27 starts for $139,781 in earnings.

At Arawa Park in New Zealand on Saturday, triple Gr1-winning former English Derby victor & Darley shuttler Authorized (Montjeu-Funsie, by Saumarez) added a black-type success when 6YO gelding Maygrove (Authorized-Lady Zhivago, by Zabeel) scored by 1.25 lengths for trainers Murray Baker & Andrew Forsman in the NZ$50,000 Listed Jakkalberry Classic (1950m) for 3YO+, over 6YO Irish-bred gelding Gentil Tonton (Yeats-Champaka, by Caerleon) & 8YO gelding Flyinby (Postponed-Angel on Links, by Palace Music). Maygrove advanced his record to 7 wins (including the Gr2 Awapuni Gold Cup & Gr2 Wellington Cup) and 10 placings (including the Listed Marton Cup) from 36 starts for NZ$325,135 earnings. Maygrove, who descends from the same female line as VRC Oaks and Thousand Guineas winner Tristanagh, was purchased for $110,000 by Wairarapa-based bloodstock agent Bruce Perry on behalf of Wellington businessman Lib Petagna at the 2012 NZB Select Yearling Sale from the draft of Haunui Farm. Maygrove is being aimed at the Gr3 New Zealand Cup at Riccarton on 12 November.

Storming The Tower, who was a NZ$4,200 purchase at the 2009 NZB Winter Mixed Bloodstock Sale, took his record to 6 wins and 17 placings (including the Gr2 ARC City of Auckland Cup) from 47 starts for NZ$196,875 earnings.
