At Ellerslie in New Zealand, Windsor Park's Gr1 English Derby-winning shuttler Pour Moi (Montjeu-Gwynn, by Darshaan) added a black-type success when 2YO gelding Haussmann (Pour Moi-Lily l'Amour, by Volksraad) overcame a wide run and wet conditions to post his first stakes victory in the $50,000 Listed Great Northern Foal Stakes (1400m) for 2YOs, defeating So Far Sokool & Ohceedee. The talented Haussmann, who cost just $14,000 as a weanling at Karaka in 2016, improved his record to 1 win and 2 placings from 4 starts for NZ$49,750 earnings. Next year's Gr1 New Zealand Derby (2400m) has been mentioned as a possible target for Haussmann. "He didn't really let down in the ground so it was a good effort and we should have some fun with him as a three-year-old," trainer Tony Pike told NZ Racing Desk. "He'll go out now and we'll have him back for some of those better races in the spring. He should get a strong mile and maybe further."
At Te Rapa in New Zealand, Arrowfield Stud's multiple Champion Australian Sire Redoute's Choice (Danehill-Shantha's Choice, by Canny Lad) added a black-type success when boom 2YO colt Ardrossan (Redoute's Choice-Miss Argyle, by Iglesia) maintained his unbeaten record with yet another impressive victory in the Listed Waikato Equine Veterinary Centre Stakes (1100m) for 2YOs, defeating Haussmann & Aquilo. Purchased by Bruce Perry Bloodstock for $150,000 at the 2016 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale from the draft of Arrowfield Stud, Ardrossan is a half-brother to Tasmanian stakes winner Cheyenne Warrior and hails from the family of Queensland Oaks winner Mother of Pearl. The exciting colt now boasts 2 wins from 2 starts for NZ$37,500 earnings. Such is the high regard in which Ardrossan is held by his connections, that he will now head to Australia where it is hoped he can fulfil his huge potential. "He's still a colt and he's got a massive future," Cambridge trainer Stephen Marsh told NZ Racing Desk. "He's going to be a lovely three-year-old and he'll head to Caulfield now to join Mick Price." Marsh added: "I begged them to keep him here because I know he's got that x factor, but the right place for him is Australia. It's great to have been part of it all with him."

Kerrin McEvoy will ride Golden Slipper favourite Earthquake (Exceed and Excel-Cataclysm, by Marauding) for the first time under race conditions in Saturday's Gr2 Reisling Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill, reports horseracing.com.au. Earthquake, a brilliant last-start winner of the Blue Diamond Stakes, is undefeated in three career starts, but through a combination of injury and pre-booked commitments McEvoy has not sat on her on race day. Trainer Peter Snowden gave Earthquake a short freshen up after her breathtaking win in the Blue Diamond Stakes and McEvoy said that she felt great in trackwork at Warwick Farm on Tuesday morning. "She worked with Haussmann this morning [Tuesday], he's a good worker, I gave him a little bit of a start and rounded him up," McEvoy told The Daily Telegraph. "The thing that has impressed me most is her attitude. She's had that little freshen up, and she's come back showing no signs of having lost any of her fitness, which she had under her belt in Melbourne." Earthquake will be bidding to emulate former star Darley juvenile, and now stallion, Sepoy, who landed the Golden Slipper-Blue Diamond double in 2011. "It's a hard task, but Sepoy did it, and she's got the right temperament and attitude that will take her a long way," McEvoy said.
