On day two of The Championships at Royal Randwick, Darley's champion juvenile and Gr1 Blue Diamond & Gr1 Golden Slipper Stakes-winning sire Sepoy (Elusive Quality-Watchful, by Danehill) celebrated an elite race success when his 3YO daughter Alizee (Sepoy-Essaouira, by Exceed and Excel) unleashed an irresistible sprint from the tail of the field to score an explosive win in the $1 million Gr1 Coolmore Legacy Stakes (1600m) for 3YO+ fillies & mares, defeating Prompt Response & Heavens Above. A half-sister to Godolphin's sensational Gr1 Golden Rose winner and now Darley stallion Astern, Alizee improved her record to 5 wins (including the Gr1 Flight Stakes, Gr2 Light Fingers Stakes & Gr2 Tea Rose Stakes) & 3 placings (including the Gr2 Silver Shadow Stakes) from 14 starts for $1,410,350 in earnings. Godolphin trainer James Cummings said Alizee deserved to be recognised as the best mile filly in the country. "She is just about the best three-year- old in the country," Cummings told Godolphin.com. "She returned with a blistering win first up over six furlongs on a good track and was just waiting to get back to Randwick on a track that suits her. The team just had her in the perfect condition today." Jockey Glyn Schofield added: "She's a special girl. In the Spring she was really dominant against her own age, now she's beaten older mares as well."
Trainer Tim Martin is hoping that talented mare Heaven's Above can atone for unlucky performance in last year's Myer Classic in the Group 1 fillies and mares feature at Flemington tomorrow. "She should have won, it's simple," Martin told racenet. "She's a horse that can strike some trouble because she gets back in her races and I've no doubt if she'd found a clear path they wouldn't have held her out." Heavens Above (Street Cry-Reggie, by Germano) has been in mixed form this campaign but she showed just how much class she possesses when landing the Gr1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) in Sydney in the autumn. The 6YO is coming off a fast-finishing 6th behind the progressive White Moss in the Gr3 Nivison (1200m) two weeks ago, and Martin believes she is ready to strike winning form again on Saturday. "Her run in the Nivison was a beauty," Martin said. "She won the Coolmore second-up in the autumn, so I'm not worried about her going from 1200 to the mile. It's within her reach and she's going as well now as she was last year."

Smart Sydney mare Heavens Above (Street Cry-Reggie, by Germano) will kick off an autumn campaign aimed at Group One glory when she resumes in the $200,000 Gr2 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill on Saturday. The Tim Martin-trained 5YO has previously shown she has the requisite talent to win at the elite level with two wins at Gr3 level as well as a second placing behind Azkadellia in the Gr1 Queen of the Turf Stakes this time last year. The Group One races that Martin has in mind are the Coolmore Classic (1500) on 11 March, the $3 million Doncaster Mile on 1 April, as well as the Queen of the Turf Stakes on 8 April. "She hasn't had a barrier trial but she's had a course proper gallop at Rosehill this morning [Tuesday]," Martin told AAP. "She will obviously improve on what she does on Saturday but it's a nice race to kick her off in and fits in well with three weeks to the Coolmore Classic." He added: "She's entered for the Doncaster and will be nominated for the Queen Of The Turf again." A Queensland winter carnival campaign also beckons for the daughter of Street Cry. "All going well I'd like to take her to Brisbane and try her in the Doomben Cup," Martin said. "I think now she is an older mare she's looking for 2000 metres."
