At Newcastle on Friday, stallion Coolmore's champion European miler and former Blue Gum Farm shuttler Canford Cliffs (Tagula-Mrs Marsh, by Marju) celebrated a Group race success when 5YO mare Princess Posh (Canford Cliffs-The Baroness, by Viscount) scored by 1.0-length for trainer Kris Lees in the $160,000 Gr3 Tibbie Stakes (1400m) for fillies and mares, defeating 4YO mare Savatiano & 5YO mare Irithea. Produced at just the right time to win going away, Princess Posh was a $25,000 bargain consigned by Phoenix Broodmare Farm at the 2015 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale. Friday’s win, her first in stakes company, took her record to 7 wins and 7 placings from 21 starts for $391,020 earnings.

Savatiano Wins Listed Mona Lisa Stakes

At Wyong on Friday, consistent Godolphin 4YO mare Savatiano (Street Cry-Retsina, by Redoute’s Choice) was a popular winner for trainer James Cummings when scoring by a half-length in the $125,000 Listed Mona Lisa Stakes (1350m) for fillies and mares. Finishing runner-up was 4YO mare Shumookh ahead of 5YO mare Irithea. Having her first start in stakes-company Savatiano improved her record to 5 wins & 4 placings from 12 starts for $333,710 earnings. Her dam Retsina is a daughter of Gr1 QTC Sires Produce Stakes winner Star Shiraz, also runner-up in the Gr1 Coolmore Classic and Gr1 QTC TJ Smith Classic in Brisbane.
