Pike Ends Historic Season With Suspension

Friday, 22nd July 2016

Champion jockey William Pike's record-breaking season will come to an end this week after he was suspended for careless riding aboard Streets Of London at Belmont on Wednesday, reports the West Australian. The 11-day suspension - Pike's first in 16 months - will commence after Saturday's Belmont Park meeting in which he will ride favourite Juicing Carrots in the Listed Belmont Classic (2200m). Pike rode his 132nd city winner of the season on Wednesday when 3YO filly Musgaze won the Emirates Melbourne Cup Tour Dinner Aug 9 Handicap over 1400m. He eclipsed Paul Harvey's mark of 116.5 city winners in a season which was set back in 1999/2000. Pike has also ridden more winners overall than any other jockey in Australia this season. He currently sits on 217.5 winners, 55 clear of his nearest rival Victorian hoop Dean Yendall.
