Like A Carousel Wins Listed Pakenham Cup

At Pakenham in Victoria, former Armidale Stud stallion Helike (Rahy-East of the Moon, by Private Account) added a black-type success when 8YO Australian-bred gelding Like A Carousel (Helike-Carnival Ride, by Spinning World) held on for a narrow win in the $250,000 Listed Pakenham Cup (2500m) for 3YO+, defeating Khartoum & Oncidium Ruler. This was just the second stakes victory of Like A Carousel's career and improved his record to 4 wins (including the Listed Harry White Classic) and 11 placings (including the Gr1 Sydney Cup & Listed Sandown Cup) from 52 starts for $678,570 in earnings.

Gr1 Spring Champion Stakes Field & Barriers

The final field has been declared and the barrier draw conducted for the $500,000 Gr1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) to be run at Royal Randwick racecourse on Saturday. The Spring Champion Stakes has been won by some top-class 3YOs during its relatively short history - in addition to the race record holder and current Spendthrift Australia stallion Hampton Court, Gay Icarus won the inaugural running of the race in 1971, followed by other turf stars including Dundeel (2012), Savabeel (2004), Universal Prince (2000), Tie The Knot (1997), Nothin' Leica Dane (1995), Danewin (1994), Stylish Century (1989), Beau Zam (1987), and the legendary Kingston Town (1979). Yankee Rose, who is yet to be confirmed as a definite starter, is the current TAB favourite at $2.60.
