At Ascot in Perth, WA, Yarradale Stud's Gr1-winning US-bred stallion Frost Giant (Giant's Causeway-Takesmybreathaway, by Gone West) sired his first official stakes winner in Australia when 2YO Australian-bred gelding Valour Road (Frost Giant-Melba Avenue, by Street Sense) maintained the perfect start to his career when cruising to a comfortable win in the $500,000 Gr2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m) for 2YOs, defeating Lady Cosmology & Lordhelpmerun. Valour Road extended his unbeaten record to 2 wins (including the Listed (R) Magic Millions WA 2YO Classic) from 2 starts for $444,580 in earnings. Trainer Simon Miller went to $60,000 to buy Valour Road at last year's Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale from the draft of Ron Sayers' Yarradale Stud with the latter retaining a small share in the gelding. "This is a race I want to win every year," trainer Simon Miller told the West Australian. "He is very good. For us to go first-up into the Magic Millions speaks volumes of him." Valour Road is the first Australian stakes winner for international sire Frost Giant - an international Group One winning son of Giant's Causeway. Valour Road is the first named foal for the winning Street Sense mare Melba Avenue, a half-sister to multiple group winner Raspberries. Valour Road's family also includes Group One winners Flavour and Sonntag.
