Smoke Where There's Fire In Rosebud

Friday, 10th August 2018

Tomorrow's Listed Rosebud (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens is all over bar the shouting if Plague Stone runs up to his short quote. A winter in the paddock can do marvellous things for young horses, and there are quite a few runners with serious formlines making their returns in this race that could prove a real handful. Outrageous is among the top ten in Caulfield Guineas calculations, and where there's smoke there's normally fire. Gr1-placed in the Sires Produce at long odds, he was less than 3-lengths behind Seabrook in the Gr1 Champagne Stakes. Sandbar obviously warrants respect after being beaten only 4-lengths in the Golden Slipper and a neck by Written By in the Pago Pago. Legend of Condor charged to the line in his trial earlier this week, and the Sun Stud-owned colt is another with solid form around high class juveniles. One can also make a strong case for recent Wyong maiden winner Oxford Tycoon who was only a length off winning both the Lonhro Stakes and Skyline Stakes from his only two prior runs.

Paquirri Wins Gr3 Kindergarten Stakes

Monday, 9th April 2018

At Royal Randwick on day one of The Championships, Yarraman Park's Gr3-winning stallion I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit-Cannarelle, by Canny Lad) added a Group race success when 2YO Australian-bred colt Paquirri (I Am Invincible-Miss Solis, by Oratorio) showed a smart turn of foot to draw clear for a comfortable win in the $200,000 Gr3 Kindergarten Stakes (1100m) for 2YOs, defeating Legend Of Condor & Lean Mean Machine. From the Listed Belgravia Stakes & Supremacy Stakes winner Miss Solis, Paquirri was a $265,000 purchase by his trainer Gary Moore at the 2017 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale from the draft of Dawson Stud. He improved his record to 1 win and 3 placings from 5 starts for $139,700 in earnings.

Santos Wins Gr2 Skyline Stakes

Monday, 5th March 2018

At Randwick in Sydney, Yarraman Park's Gr3-winning stallion I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit-Cannarelle, by Canny Lad) added a group race success when 2YO colt Santos (I Am Invincible-Ghaliah, by Secret Savings) scored by 0.2-length for trainers Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott in the $200,000 Gr2 Skyline Stakes (1200m) for 2YO colts & geldings, defeating fellow colts Spin & Legend Of Condor. After peeling off the back of front-runner Zousain at the top of the straight, odds-on pop Santos make laboured to hit the front before standing tall to just get the job done at the line. A $180,00 yearling consigned by Emirates Park at the 2017 Inglis Classic Sale, Santos improved his record, by winning his first stakes race, to 2 wins & a placing (in the Listed Breeders Plate on debut) from 4 starts for $240,100 earnings. Santos eased marginally to double figures in Golden Slipper betting after the crowded finish was inconclusive.
