At Belmont in West Australia, Yarradale Stud's Gr2-winning stallion Musket (Redoute's Choice-Tugela, by Riverman), a three-quarter brother to champion mare and three-time Melbourne Cup winner Makybe Diva, celebrated his first stakes winner when 3YO gelding Dark Musket (Musket-Oriental Lass, by Faltaat) scored by a nose for trainer Graeme Ballantyne in the $100,000 Listed Belmont Classic (2200m) for 3YOs, over fellow 3YO geldings North Ridge (Danehill Express-Noreaster, by Fuji Kiseki) & Settlers Creek (Discorsi-Three Sisters, by Nuclear Freeze). Dark Musket took his record to 3 wins and 2 placings from 8 starts for $115,100 earnings. Dark Musket was purchased by John Chalmers Bloodstock for just $4,000 as a weanling at the 2012 Magic Millions Perth Winter Thoroughbred Sale from the draft of Geisel Park.


US Sire Majesty's Prince Euthanased Aged 30

US multiple Gr1-winning stallion Majesty's Prince (His Majesty-Pied Princess, by Tom Fool) was euthanased aged 30 "because of complications from the infirmities of old age" at Marsh Thoroughbred Farm in Virginia, reported bloodhorse.com. On the track, Majesty's Prince recorded 12 wins (including 1983 & 1984's Gr1 Man o' War Stakes, 1983 & 1984's Gr1 Sword Dancer Handicap, 1982 & 1984's Canadian Gr1 Rothmans International Stakes) & 20 placings (including 1984's Gr1 Turf Classic) from 43 starts for US$2,077,796 earnings. In the breeding barn, Majesty's Prince (who stood at several farms during his stallion career) started at North Ridge Farm in Kentucky & is represented by 14 stakes-horses (including Gr2-winners Dr Kiernan & Majesty's Turn) & the earners of US$5.7 million.
