One More Honey Wins Gr2 Sweet Embrace Stakes

Monday, 27th February 2017

At Royal Randwick in Sydney, former Vinery and now Ridgeview Park-based stallion Onemorenomore (Red Ransom-Palia, by Last Tycoon) added a black-type success when 2YO filly One More Honey (Onemorenomore-One Funny Honey, by Distorted Humor) scored by 1 length for trainer John Thompson in the $200,000 Gr2 Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) for 2YO fillies, over fellow fillies Arctic Angel (Hard Spun-Icy Maiden, by Xaar) & Teaspoon (Snitzel-Patronella, by Mister C). This was the first stakes victory for One More Honey who improved her record to 2 wins from 3 starts for $158,500 earnings. A homebred for Emirates Park, One More Honey is the second foal to race from the US-bred mare One Funny Honey (Distorted Humor), a daughter of Australian-bred mare Lan Kwai Fong (Bluebird). On the track, Lan Kwai Fong (originally a $110,000 yearling at the Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney) won the Gr3 The Vanity & finished runner-up in both the Gr1 VRC Oaks & Gr2 Group Wakeful Stakes. After her retirement, Lan Kwai Fong moved to the US in 2001 & was subsequently sold for US$450,000 at the 2003 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.

Winx Stars As MM Graduates Sweep 10 Stakes Races

Monday, 27th February 2017

The world's best on turf led the way as Magic Millions graduates starred across Australasia on a massive day's racing with no fewer than 10 individual stakes wins. Winx was again the star act of the afternoon - overcoming a heavy track to lead home a Magic Millions 1-2 result in the Gr1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) at Randwick. The win was the 10th at Group One level for Winx and in winning she went past Phar Lap's longest consecutive winning streak. Earlier in the afternoon the outstanding WA-bred and owned star Black Heart Bart won his fifth Gr1 in the Futurity Stakes at Caulfield. One of the most popular gallopers in the country, Black Heart Bart came with a strong finishing run to grab his stable-mate Tosen Stardom in the last stride. Weir said there were Adelaide or Sydney races as likely targets for the gelding, with the recently boosted $1 million Gr1 Goodwood at Morphettville, a race he won last year, a possible goal. Other magic Millions graduates to claim feature race wins on Saturday were: Stratum Star (Gr2 MRC Peter Young Stakes), Farson (Gr2 MRC Autumn Stakes), One More Honey (Gr2 ATC Sweet Embrace Stakes), Gold Fever (Gr2 Matamata Breeders' Stakes), Silent Sedition (Gr3 MRC Mannerism Stakes), Benx (Gr3 MRC Zeditave Stakes), Boom Time (MRC Listed Mornington Cup Prelude), and Gangbuster (Listed Lex Piper Stakes).
