Fanatic Wins Gr2 Adelaide Cup

At Morphettville Park in Adelaide, Rich Hill Stud's Melbourne Cup winning stallion Shocking (Street Cry-Maria di Castiglia, by Danehill) added a Group race success when 5YO New Zealand-bred mare Fanatic (Shocking-Komplete Klass, by Groom Dancer) showed staying was her forte with a strong win in the $400,000 Gr2 Adelaide Cup (3200m) for 3YO+, defeating German import Ormito & Poppiholla. Raced by her breeder Sean Kiernan, the Curraghmore born and raised Fanatic improved her record to 6 wins (including the Gr1 New Zealand Oaks & Listed Sandown Cup) and 4 placings from 31 starts for $416,803 in earnings. Co-trainer Ben Hayes said Fanatic was now likely to head to Sydney for the $2 million Gr1 Sydney Cup (3200m) at Royal Randwick on 14 April. "Once this horse gets out over 2800 metres plus she’s elite-level," he said. "I thought she was really strong at the end of that race. Weiry’s horse [Ormito] challenged her and she fought him off. I’d say she’ll definitely be heading to Sydney."

Double Bluff, who began his career in the UK, improved his record to 5 wins and 9 placings (including the Gr2 SAJC Adelaide Cup & Gr3 MRC Easter Cup) from 35 starts for $408,560 in earnings.
