Peaceful Wins Listed Auckland Futurity Stakes

Tuesday, 12th June 2018

At Te Rapa in New Zealand, Waikato Stud's Cox Plate winning stallion Savabeel (Zabeel-Savannah Success, by Success Express) added a black-type success when 2YO New Zealand-bred filly Peaceful (Savabeel-Paloma, by Mossman) opened her stakes account with a strong win in the $50,000 Listed Auckland Futurity Stakes (1400m) for 2YOs, defeating Cyber Attack & Sol Invictus. Peaceful, who races in the distinctive lime coloured silks of owner Lib Petagna, was purchased by Bruce Perry for $260,000 at the 2017 NZ Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale from the draft of Westbury Stud. A direct descendant of VRC & Queensland Oaks winner and celebrated blue hen Denise's Joy, Peaceful advanced her record to 1 win and 3 placings (including the Listed Champagne Stakes) from 5 starts for NZ$43,100 in earnings. Co-trainer Murray Baker predicted a bright future for Peaceful: "She did the job well today," Baker said. "She's a stakes winner now, and she's by Savabeel and has a good pedigree. I think she should make a good three-year-old next season – probably over a mile to 2000 metres."

Secret Allure Wins Listed Champagne Stakes

Monday, 7th May 2018

At Riccarton Park in New Zealand, Inglewood Stud's beautifully bred Gr2-winning & Gr1-placed stallion Zacinto (Dansili-Itacha, by Distant View) added a black-type success when 2YO New Zealand-bred filly Secret Allure (Zacinto-Secret Scent, by O'Reilly) posted her maiden stakes win courtesy of a strong finishing performance in the $50,000 Listed Champagne Stakes (1200m) for 2YOs, defeating Peaceful & Pick Me Up in Rio. Purchased for $36,000 by her trainer Lisa Latta, Secret Allure improved her record to 2 wins and 1 placing from 4 starts for NZ$50,375 in earnings.

Lightning Strikes Twice With Secret Allure

Monday, 7th May 2018

The Select Sale was where it all began for this season's New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year Dijon Bleu (Burgundy), and the same trainer and owners struck black-type gold with another Select Sale graduate when Secret Allure (Zacinto) won Saturday's $50,000 Listed Berkley Stud Champagne Stakes at Riccarton. Making the fourth start of her career, the $36,000 purchase came from midfield and shot through a gap along the inside to take the lead in the straight. Fellow Karaka graduate Peaceful (Savabeel) chased gamely, but Secret Allure was too strong and scored by 1.25 lengths. "She felt great," said jockey Rosie Myers. "Once she got that split by the rail, she gave me a really good turn of foot. She probably even got there a bit too easily and just eased up a bit. I think she'll run further than this later on. She's pretty tractable and will do what you ask her to do."

Villermont Wins Gr2 Sandown Guineas

Monday, 20th November 2017

At Sandown in Melbourne, Vinery Stud's 4-time Gr1 winning stallion & half-brother to champion Black Caviar All Too Hard (Casino Prince-Helsinge, by Desert Sun) added a Group race success when 3YO Australian-bred colt Villermont (All Too Hard-Bollinger, by Dehere) stormed home for a brilliant last-to-first win in the $250,000 Gr2 Sandown Guineas (1600m) for 3YOs, defeating Peaceful State & stable-mate Black Sail. Bred and part-owned by Vinery Stud, the blue blooded Villermont improved his record to 2 wins and 1 placing from 4 starts for $172,910 in earnings. Trainer Aaron Purcell said Villermont would be spelled and aimed at races such as the Gr1 Rosehill Guineas and Gr1 Australian Derby in the autumn. "He's definitely going to be better in the autumn so for him to win here is a great sign for next year,'' Purcell told racing.com. "He's a very big horse and he's just taken some time to grow into himself,'' Purcell explained. He moves like a machine at home and he's just going to develop into a really nice horse." Purchased by Ciaron Maher Racing for $250,000 at the 2016 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Vinery Stud, Villermont is the last foal of the beautifully bred Gr1 Coolmore Classic winner Bollinger (Dehere-Bint Marscay) who died last year. Bollinger, who is out of Gr1 Golden Slipper winner Bint Marscay, had seven foals make it to the races with the best performed hitherto being the US-bred Friesan Fire (A.P. Indy), winner of the Gr2 Louisiana Derby, Gr3 Risen Star Stakes & Gr3 Lecomte Stakes. This makes Villermont a direct descendant of influential mare Eau D'Etoile (Sir Tristram), ancestress also of outstanding dual Gr1-winning miler Filante, Australian Guineas winner Kenny's Best Pal, Victoria Derby winner Benicio, and Gr1 Australia Stakes winner Stella Cadente.

Million Dollar Filly Set For Debut

Wednesday, 25th May 2016

James Cummings will take the covers off valuable filly Peaceful Sea when she makes her debut in an 1100 metre 2YO fillies maiden at Canterbury today. By Fastnet Rock out of the US-bred Kingmambo mare Candlelight, Peaceful Sea was purchased by Coolmore for $1.75 million at last year's Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Segenhoe Stud. Peaceful Sea's second dam is the Gr1 Kentucky Oaks & Gr1 Santa Anita Oaks placed Bright Candles (El Gran Senor), dam of deceased dual Gr1-winning stallion Grand Slam (Gone West). Peaceful Sea, to be ridden by Kerrin McEvoy, has been tuned for her first-time assignment with two barrier trial victories, the latest an impressive 2-length win at Randwick on 6 May over 1050m. However, Peaceful Sea is unlikely to have an easy time on debut with several well bred fillies set to oppose her, including Godolphin filly Deipara (by Lonhro out of Gr1 winner Divine Madonna), and Blowing Kisses (by Redoute's Choice out of Gr1 Queensland Oaks & Gr1 Coolmore Classic winner Eskimo Queen).

Green Desert Euthanized

Thursday, 10th September 2015

Top international sire Green Desert (Danzig-Foreign Courier, by Sir Ivor) has been euthanized at the age of 32, according to a statement from Shadwell Estate Company and Darley Stud Management, reports Blood Horse. "The increasing toll of old age and infirmity led to the mutual agreement that this giant of the stallion ranks was euthanized in the peaceful and familiar surroundings of the Nunnery Stud following veterinary advice," Shadwell said in a release. Trained by Sir Michael Stoute, the US-bred Green Desert was a winner of the 1986 Gr1 July Cup before going on to forge a reputation as a sire of sires with top-class horses such as Cape Cross, Invincible Spirit, Oasis Dream, Desert Prince, and Shinko Forest. Stoute said in a statement: "Green Desert was a horse I loved training, he had a huge amount of vitality and personality. He was a good miler, for Dancing Brave was the only horse to beat him in the Guineas, but his exceptional speed meant he was able to win group races over six furlongs. He has left a great legacy, and one that I think will become larger and larger over time."

Sheik Mohammed Appoints Ferguson To Dubai Role

Friday, 10th July 2009

John Ferguson, a leading cog in the global Darley team, has been appointed by Sheikh Mohammed as vice chairman of a new organization in Dubai, according to thoroughbredtimes.com. Bloodstock & racing manager for Sheikh Mohammed, Ferguson's new role is with Falcon & Associates which will "be tasked with expanding knowledge, support, and strategic thinking in Dubai, so that it may build on its successes to date and fulfill its long-term potential." Falcon and Associates will establish and own, in full or in partnership, media-related businesses "to deepen understanding and appreciation of Dubai's vision both nationally and internationally." Reacting to his appointment, Ferguson expressed the view that the new role would not affect his current role with Sheik Mohammed, however, "Falcon will just help me fill those quiet peaceful moments that are becoming few and far between."
