Pride Aiming High With Pecans

Tuesday, 1st May 2018

Pecans will be aimed at the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Doomben on 9 June, reports Sky Racing. Trainer Joe Pride has decide to raise the bar with the 4YO mare after she resumed with a strong win in the Gr3 Godolphin Crown (1300m) at Hawkesbury last Saturday. "I've spoken to the owners and we are going to go for the Stradbroke," Pride said. "She should get in with about 51 or 51 kilos and 1350 metres at Doomben will suit." Pride said Pecans had surprised him since coming into his stable after Tricolours Syndications bought her from Godolphin for $50,000 at the 2017 Inglis Melbourne August Bloodstock Sale. "I underestimated her. When we bought her it was to try to win a Saturday race," he said. "You always hope you're buying a good one but she has amazed me. She's a good, tough, lovely mare and is bright and happy after Saturday."
