Sugar Bella Wins Gr3 Wenona Girl Quality

Monday, 12th March 2018

At Royal Randwick in Sydney, Arrowfield Stud's multiple stakes-winning stallion Not A Single Doubt (Redoute's Choice-Single's Bar, by Rory's Jester) added a black-type success when 4YO Australian-bred mare Sugar Bella (Not A Single Doubt-Hula Wonder, by Hula Chief) opened her stakes account courtesy of a eye-catching last-to-first victory in the $150,000 Gr3 Wenona Girl Quality (1200m) for 4YO+ mares, defeating Miss Que & Perizada. Bred by George Altomonte's Corumbene Stud and purchased for $135,000 at the 2015 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Sugar Bella is out of the dual Gr3-winning mare Hula Wonder and is a half-sister to Brisbane stakes winner Willy Jimmy. She now boasts the impressive record of 6 wins from 7 starts for $247,440 in earnings. Trainer Kris Lees said he would wait before making a decision about Sugar Bella's next assignment. "I know she has an electric turn of foot and was either going to just get beaten or win," he told Sky Racing. "She is a high-quality mare and can go on to even better races but we will let the dust settle on this win before a decision."
