At the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, 6YO German-bred gelding Araldo Junior (Medicean-Alanda, by Lando) posted the first stakes victory of his career with a comfortable win in the $150,000 Listed Queensland Cup (3200m) for 3YO+, defeating My Diamantine & Pop 'N' Scotch. Carrying the familiar blue and gold lightning bolt silks made famous by Chautauqua on behalf of prominent owner Rupert Legh, Araldo Junior advanced his record to 6 wins and 3 placings from 23 starts for $277,646 in earnings. Araldo Junior could now be aimed at a Country Cups campaign in Victoria after providing trainer Mike Moroney with his third Queensland Cup, reports Racing Queensland. "I don't think he's up to a Caulfield Cup but some of those country Cups here in the spring look nice races for him," Moroney said.
At Eagle Farm in Brisbane, 6YO imported gelding Murphy's Delight (Hurricane Run-Akoya, by Anabaa) landed the first stakes victory of his career when scoring by 0.8-length for trainer Chris Waller in the $100,00 Listed Queensland Cup (3200m) for 3YO+, over 5YO gelding Pop 'N' Scotch (Husson-Popnik, by Galileo) & 5YO mare Viva Espana (Dubawi-Expressly, by Success Express). His latest success boosted his record to 5 wins and 14 placings from 30 starts for $276,977 earnings. Waller will now spell Murphy's Delight before bringing him back for a spring campaign. "He'll spell now and come back for the spring but we won't be looking at anything too ambitious," Waller said. "We've had him all the time since he came over here and he's made steady improvement but he's not up to the big Cups in Melbourne." He added: "There's a 2800 metre race on Melbourne Cup day which looks attractive."
