Also runner-up in the Gr1 Newmarket Handicap & Gr1 All-Aged Stakes this season, the new pin-up sprinter of the Darren Weir stable is very closely related to reigning New Zealand Champion Sire Savabeel (himself a Gr1 Cox Plate hero) who will stand the 2016 season at Waikato Stud for NZ$100,000 + GST. Quality Catalogue For Bloodstock South Africa Cape Mare Sale

The 2014 Cape Mare and Weanling Sale will take place at Worcester, north-east of Cape Town in South Africa on July 24th. The sale commences at 10am and will be held on the day after the Cape Breeders' annual Stallion auction. There are 219 horses catalogued in this year's sale which includes some outstanding prospects. The Cape Mare and Weanling sale has a long history of uncovering many outstanding future broodmares, including the dams of two of South Africa's greatest champions. Stormsvlei, dam of triple Horse Of the Year Pocket Power, was a R12,000 purchase at the 2003 Mare and Weanling Sale, whilst La Massine, dam of dual Horse of the Year Variety Club, went through the ring for R25,000 at the same sale. Among the broodmares to be offered at year's sale are stakes performers Andrea Dora, Burmese (in foal to Jay Peg), Corn Dodger (Elusive Fort), Crescent Lily (Seul Amour), Favourite Island (Jay Peg), Garden Route (Rebel King), Guest Among Men (Oratorio), Prototype (Judpot), Rubirosa (Twice Over), Saucy Savannah (Bold Silvano), Sawubona (King's Apostle), Sharp Mistress (Var), Spring Clover (Bold Silvano) and Strelitzia (Bold Silvano). SAf Emperors Palace National Sale Catalogue Released

South Africa's showpiece sale, the Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale, has had its catalogue launched for 2010. To be held on Friday, April 23, Sunday, April 25 & Monday April 26, the catalogue comprises 603 entries, featuring siblings to 33 Gr1 winners including champions National Currency, Mythical Flight, National Colour, Let's Rock 'N Roll, Rebel King and Cataloochee. South African Thoroughbred Breeders Association chairman Altus Joubert commented: "The international thoroughbred industry has become alive to the fact that South African thoroughbreds are able to hold their own on the international circuit. Leading South African trainer Mike De Kock, who enjoys a high global profile, is likely to have two South African-breds, Lizard's Desire and Mr Brock, in the rich Gr1 Dubai World Cup on March 27. Among this year's yearlings are "selected progeny of internationally renowned stallions Rock Of Gibraltar, Elusive Quality and Singspiel."

In the South African auction ring, trainer Mike Bass (acting on behalf of owner Graham Beck) paid top price of R2.4 million (A$364,000) for a Summerhill Stud-bred Kahal colt during the middle session of the 3-day Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale at the TBA sales complex at Gosforth Park in Johannesburg. The colt is a half-brother to champion sprinter Rebel King & Bass commented: "He's an attractive yearling & Mr Beck advised me that he wasn't going to miss this one!”
