Also at Newcastle on Friday, deceased dual Derby-winning shuttler & 6-time Gr1 victor High Chaparral (Sadler's Wells-Kasora, by Dashaan) added a Group race success when 6YO gelding New Tipperary (High Chaparral-Assertiveness, by Danehill) charged home to provide trainer Joseph Pride with a 1-length win the $160,000 Cameron Hcp (1500m), defeating 9YO gelding Red Excitement & 5YO horse Best Of Days. New Tipperary, who was $130,000 yearling purchase from the draft of Eliza Park Stud at the 2014 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, took his record 7 wins & 2 placings (including the Gr2 Ajax Stakes) from 24 starts for $451,225 earnings.
At Scone in the NSW Hunter Valley, Darley's deceased shuttler & Gr1 Dubai World Cup winner Street Cry (Machiavellian-Helen Street, by Troy) added a black-type success when 4YO Australian-bred gelding Osborne Bulls (Street Cry-Jerezana, by Lonhro) claimed a well-deserved maiden stakes victory when sprinting clear for a comfortable win in the $150,000 Listed Luskin Star Stakes (1300m) for 3YO+, defeating Red Excitement & invincible Gem. A homebred for Darley and Godolphin, Osborne Bulls is out of the Listed Ramornie Handicap winner Jerezana. He improved his record to 5 wins and 5 placings from 10 starts for $317,700 in earnings.
At Gosford on the NSW Central Coast, Darley's deceased former multiple Gr1-winning shuttler & Dubai World Cup winner Singspiel (In The Wings-Glorious Song, by Halo) added a black-type success when 8YO French-bred entire Singing (Singspiel-Ring Beaune, by Bering) outstayed his rivals with a strong front-running victory in the $150,000 Listed Gosford Gold Cup (2100m) for 3YO+, defeating Red Excitement & Mighty Lucky. Remarkably, this was the first stakes win for the Australian Bloodstock-owned Singing who improved his record to 7 wins and 6 placings (including the Gr2 Hansa Preis, Gr3 Prix Exbury & Listed ATC Premier's Cup) from 26 starts for $460,510 in earnings.
At Rosehill Gardens in Sydney, Vinery Stud's 6-time Gr1-winning stallion Testa Rossa (Perugino-Bo Dapper, by Sir Dapper) added a Group race success when 6YO Australian-bred gelding Testashadow (Testa Rossa-Moonlight Shadow, by Flying Spur) toughed it out for a narrow win in the $150,000 Gr3 Festival Stakes (1500m) for 3YO+, defeating Mister Sea Wolf & Red Excitement. Testashadow, who was passed in for $55,000 at the 2013 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Eliza Park, improved his record to 8 wins (including the Listed (R) Magic Millions Cup) and 11 placings from 37 starts for $1,320,585 in earnings. Trainer Gary Portelli said Testashadow would make his next appearance in the Gr2 Villiers Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on 16 December.
While the headlines might read it was business as usual for Winx, the mighty daughter of Street Cry and Vegas Showgirl gave her supporters another heart-in-mouth experience before etching win 19 from her past 19 starts in the $252,000 Gr2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick. On a beautiful early Spring day in front of an army of adoring fans 6YO mare Winx was forced to fight for her life, even more so than when slow to start in her penultimate run, after Josh Parr set sail for home a long way out on Red Excitement (Excites) who'd made all the running. The daring catch me if you can tactics almost paid off with Hugh Bowman doing his utmost to keep Winx balanced before cutting her loose with 150m to go to haul in the leader, with Chocante third. In the end it all looked pretty easy, however both Bowman and trainer Chris Waller acknowledged that this time around the situation was even more worrying than what they'd experienced in the Warwick Stakes, a race that left runner-up Foxplay flattened. The additional $144,250 pushed Winx's earnings to $13,183,425 as she sets off in her quest to make it 20 straight in the lead up to a possible Gr1 Cox Plate treble.

Champion jockey Damien Oliver will partner last-start Villiers Stakes winner Sense Of Occasion (Street Sense-Saywaan, by Zabeel) in Friday's $150,000 Listed Gosford Gold Cup (2100m), reports AAP. Oliver replaces fellow Melbourne jockey Ben Melham who is unavailable. "A number of jockeys have commitments at the big Magic Millions meeting at the Gold Coast on Saturday and aren't keen to ride at Gosford the previous day," trainer Kris Lees said. "I'm pleased to get Damien to come to Gosford. I will most likely have three runners at the meeting and he will ride all of them." Lees said he was unsure about the 6YOs programme beyond Friday. "I was planning to run him in the Australia Day Cup at Randwick on January 26 but he might get too much weight in that," he said. "Probably we'll freshen him and have a crack at the Doncaster Mile seeing as he is already guaranteed a start." Seven horses have thus far been entered for the Gosford Gold Cup with nominations extended until 11:00 am today.
