Belmont Sprint Next for Rocky

Wednesday, 23rd May 2018

Trainer Chris Gangemi says evergreen sprinter Rock Magic "pulled up a treat' following his dashing win in last Saturday's Group 3 Roma Cup (1200m) at Ascot, reports the West Australian. Gangemi said the 8YO Rock Magic will make his next appearance in the Group 3 Belmont Sprint (1400m) at Belmont Park on Saturday week, before embarking on another spring campaign in Melbourne. "All going well, he'll go back to Melbourne for a couple of races he started in last year," said Gangemi. "Instead of four runs he'll have two or three and come back earlier for the Winterbottom [Gr1], so he can have a fair crack at that."

Rock Magic Poised for Maiden Gr1 Success

Tuesday, 28th November 2017

Trainer Chris Gangemi believes a tough spring campaign in Melbourne has provided veteran sprinter Rock Magic (Redoute's Choice-Rockabubble, by Bubble Gum Fellow) with the perfect preparation for Saturday's $1 million Gr1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) at Ascot, reports the West Australian. The evergreen 8YO is arguably in career best form having finished third in the Gr2 Schillaci Stakes (1100m), seventh in the Gr1 Manikato Stakes (1200m), and sixth in the Gr1 Darley Classic (1200m) at his past three outings. "Most horses don't get better at eight but he's the fittest he's ever been," Gangemi said. "After every run in Melbourne he was bouncing out of his skin. That was why he had all four runs. He travelled back well and I couldn't be happier with him." Gangemi has his fingers crossed that luck is on Rock Magic's side after he quartered a heel on the eve of last year's Winterbottom in which he ran third. "Hopefully nothing goes wrong in the next six days and if he gets there in good order, he'll be a big chance," he said.
