Rudy Firing for Return

Thursday, 23rd November 2017

Trainer Helen Page is hoping veteran galloper Rudy (Red Dazzler-Go on Now Go, by Success Express) can kick off his summer campaign in the same way he finished off the winter with a win at Doomben on Saturday, reports Racing Queensland Webnews. The 7YO joined the millionaires club at his most recent appearance when landing the Gr3 Tattersall's Cup (2200m) at Doomben in June and will open his summer campaign in the Listed Recognition Stakes over 1350m. Page said Rudy's primary target is the Magic Millions Trophy (2200m) at the Gold Coast in January. "I'm not ruling out the Villiers in Sydney as it's still an option but the Magic Millions Trophy is his aim at this stage," Page said. "He's not a sales-related horse and normally can't run on Magic Millions day but he can gain a start if he wins the Shoot Out at Doomben next month." The winner of the $100,000 Shoot Out Quality (2200m) at Doomben on 30 December earns a wildcard entry into the Magic Millions Trophy. Rudy has had two barrier trial wins at the Gold Coast in preparation for his return. "Rudy is a pleasure to train and is going enormous," Page continued. "He likes wet tracks so the heavy track won't worry him. He's as fit as I can get him for a first-up run and he'll be very competitive…he's got 60 kilos which is the biggest worry."

Atlantic Jewel First-Up For Classy Sagaronne

Wednesday, 2nd September 2015

Highly promising Queensland filly Sagaronne (Real Saga-Lasoron, by Oarsman) will launch her VRC Oaks campaign in Saturday's Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley. The daughter of Real Saga, who races in the red and yellow colours of Segenhoe Thoroughbreds, announced herself as a potential top-class racehorse in the winter when winning the Listed The Phoenix over 1350m before a fast-finishing second behind classy colt Press Statement in the Gr1 JJ Atkins Stakes (1600m) at Doomben in June. Although she trialled well when second behind Rudy at the Gold Coast on 11 August, trainer Toby Edmonds said Sagaronne will not be seen at her best until she steps out over further. "What happens Saturday is nearly irrelevant because she's going to be getting over journeys a lot further than 1200 metres," Edmonds told Racenet. "It's just a kick-off point basically and I wanted to give her a look at the Valley because she'll run in the Vase in the lead-up to the Oaks." The Gr1 VRC Oaks (2500m) will be run at Flemington on Thursday, 5 November.
