Ability Wins Listed All Victorian Sprint Series Final

Monday, 10th July 2017

At Flemington in Melbourne, Chatswood Stud's Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes winning stallion Reward For Effort (Exceed And Excel-Miss Prospect, by Rory's Jester) added a black-type success when 4YO bay gelding Ability (Reward For Effort-Paeroa, by Dubai Destination) continued his ascension through the sprinting ranks with a brilliant win in the $150,000 Listed All Victorian Sprint Series Final (1200m) for 3YO+, defeating Duke Of Brunswick & Ruettiger. Raced by the estate of the late Phil Sly, Ability, who was a $150,000 purchase by Matchem Racing at the 2014 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale from the draft of Yallambee Stud, improved his record to 6 wins and 4 placings from 15 starts for $278,250 in earnings. Trainer Robert Smerdon said the progressive Ability would be given a short break before returning later in the spring. "We will look deeper into the spring with him around Caulfield Cup week and Melbourne Cup week," Smerdon told racing.com. Ability is a direct descendant of champion mare Glorious Song, dam of multiple Gr1-winning champion racehorse and sire Singspiel, and top sire Rahy. This is also the family of dual Gr1 winner Devil's Bag, Gr1 winner Campanologist, and Saint Ballado.
