At Royal Randwick in Sydney, Gr1-winning & Gr1 Australian Derby winning stallion Roman Emperor (Montjeu-Gussy Godiva, by Last Tycoon) sired his first stakes winner when 4YO Australian-bred gelding Emperor's Way (Roman Emperor-Laylia, by Redoute's Choice) opened his stakes account with his fourth successive win in the $125,000 Listed Randwick City Stakes (2000m) for 3YO+, defeating Alward & Singing. Co-trainer Paul Snowden said Emperor's Way would now be sent for a spell to prepare for the spring. "He's done a great job. This whole preparation has been amazing," Snowden told Sky Racing. "He was a Class One horse when he started and he's come right through to open company now and won a Listed race." Snowden added: "If he can improve a touch more next prep he's going to be right up there with the better horses and we'll give him that opportunity in the early part of the spring." Bred by Think Big Stud, Emperor's Way was purchased by Triple Crown Syndications for $55,000 at the 2015 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale. He is a half-brother to dual Gr3 ATC Birthday Card Stakes winner Shamalia (Shamardal).

Hips Don't Lie Daughter On Song To Sashay

Wednesday, 4th October 2017

In the fourth at Geelong today, Sia will be looking to atone for a last start second that had odds-on punters hiding behind their metaphorical fringes only ten days ago. The step-up to 1340m in the 3YO Fillies BM 64 should be perfect for the fast finishing Sia, who swooped wide from near last most recently over 1100m to just go down by 0.2-length. The field of six, however, holds some serious depth with the unbeaten Encosta de Lago filly Cesares and also unbeaten Smart Missile filly Stylish Missile hoping to keep perfect records intact. The race also features the Waterhouse / Bott prepared grey filly Our Crown Mistress who will likely be on pace and shooting for two on the trot following a stylish display at Sale early in September. It will definitely be very hard though to hold out the gorgeous Fastnet Rock filly Sia, a $1.1 million Inglis Easter Yearling purchase from the Coolmore Stud draft. From Gr2 Reisling Stakes winner Hips Don't Lie, and a full sister to Gr1 Golden Slipper third Lake Geneva, there appear to be many chart topping hits in store for this equine version of the Australian singing and songwriting sensation. That's corroborated by nominations in both the Gr1 Thousand Guineas and Gr1 Kennedy Oaks this Spring Carnival.

Worthy Cause to Stand at Clear Mountain Fairview

Friday, 19th May 2017

Worthy Cause, a powerful son of champion sire Choisir, will commence stud duties at Clear Mountain Fairview in 2017. Prepared by Queensland's top juvenile trainer John Zielke, Worthy Cause's ability was apparent from the start when he romped home on debut by more than 5 lengths. He would eventually amass almost $500,000 in prize money with his biggest wins coming in the Gr3 Gunsynd Classic (1800m), by two lengths from multiple Group performer Upham, and the Listed Paris Lane Stakes (1400m) at Flemington, where he defeated three-time Gr1 winner Turn Me Loose. "Worthy Cause has arrived at Clear Mountain Fairview and has settled in beautifully," Bob Frappell said. "We are wrapped in the type of horse he is, great conformation and a kind eye. His pedigree and race performances demonstrate versatility and these aspects are certainly sought after when selecting a top sire prospect like Worthy Cause to stand at stud." Frappell added: "He was a top level performer on the track and now he heads to the breeding barn to continue his family's success story." Worthy Cause (Choisir-Tahnee Tango, by Grand Lodge), who hails from the family of Gr1 winners Shogun Lodge, Referral and Singing The Blues, will stand at a fee of $5,500 with payment on a live foal.

Gr1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes Field & Barrier Draw

Wednesday, 5th April 2017

The final field has been declared and the barrier draw conducted for the showpiece event of The Championships – the $4 million weight-for-age Gr1 Queens Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) – to be run at Royal Randwick this Saturday, 8 April. The race takes on special significance as the final autumn appearance of champion mare Winx, who will be chasing her 17th consecutive victory and an incredible 12th at Gr1 level. The world's equal highest rated horse (alongside Arrogate) has drawn perfectly in barrier three and will be partnered by her regular rider Hugh Bowman. Such is Winx's dominance that she is rated a $1.10 chance with Tab, practically rendering the Queen Elizabeth a non-betting affair except for those intrepid punters with Mariana Trench-like pockets. Winx's nearest market rival, Hartnell ($11), will jump from barrier one. The final field is:

  1. HARTNELL (John O'Shea-James Doyle) 59kg (1)
  2. EXOSPHERIC (Lee & Anthony Freedman-Kerrin McEvoy) 59kg (2)
  3. HAPPY CLAPPER (Patrick Webster-Blake Shinn) 59kg (5)
  4. THE UNITED STATES (Robert Hickmott-Damien Oliver) 59kg (7)
  5. SENSE OF OCCASION (Kris Lees-Corey Brown) 59kg (4)
  6. HARLEM (David & B Hayes & T Dabernig-Craig Williams) 59kg (8)
  7. SINGING (Kris Lees-Sam Clipperton) 59kg (9)
  8. NO DOUBT (Anthony & Edward Cummings-Tommy Berry) 59kg (6)
  9. WINX (Chris Waller-Hugh Bowman) 57kg (3)

Monday, 20th April 2015

At Royal Randwick in Sydney, multiple stakes-winning Arrowfield Stud stallion Not A Single Doubt (Redoute's Choice-Single's Bar, by Rory's Jester) added a Group success when 4YO mare Gypsy Diamond (Not a Single Doubt-Gypsy Tucker, by Zabeel) scored by 0.5-length for trainers Peter and Paul Snowden in the $150,000 Gr3 JRA Plate (2000m) for 3YO+, over 5YO gelding Leebaz (Zabeel-Polish Princess, by Polish Precedent) & 4YO entire Singing Flame (Song of Tara-What a Giggle, by Air de France). This is the world-class family of champion French colt Holy Roman Emperor and champion Australian sires Flying Spur & Encosta de Lago.

D-Day For Deep Field

Friday, 20th February 2015

Co-trainer Wayne Hawkes believes boom sprinter Deep Field (Northern Meteor-Listen Here, by Elusive Quality) has gone to a new level ahead of tomorrow's $500,000 Gr1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Flemington, reports racing.com. The unbeaten Deep Field, widely regarded as Australia's most exciting racehorse, will face his biggest test to date when he makes his Gr1 debut against a top-quality field that includes the world's equal-highest rated sprinter and reigning Australian Horse of the Year, Lankan Rupee. "He's physically more mature, he's thickened and he's probably not hitting the ground as hard as what he was in his first preparation," Hawkes said. "His action is better and as an overall package he's better for it." However, despite singing Deep Field's praises, Hawkes is wary of being over confident. "He's never run in a Group 1 race and Lankan Rupee's the champion sprinter so there's a title up for grabs and while it might not be worth that much monetary value with Deep Field it's all about getting that Group 1 next to his name," Hawkes said. "I'd like to say he will win and he certainly can but I said will win once and that was with Octagonal and he got beaten." As a half-brother to Caulfield Guineas winner Shooting To Win, and a direct descendant of Cambridge Stud's legendary matriarch Eight Carat (his fifth dam), Deep Field would be worth a fortune as a stallion prospect if he can win tomorrow and keep his perfect record intact.

We feel we will be able to best accomplish that by strengthening our position in Kentucky & adding to our emerging roster in Canada. Our facilities & personnel in Williston (in Ontario) are 2nd to none & we will raise all the Adena Springs weanlings & yearlings there, as we have done for the past several years.
