Summer Sham Wins Gr2 Armanasco Stakes

Monday, 26th February 2018

At Caulfield in Melbourne, Arrowfield Stud's multiple stakes-winning stallion Not A Single Doubt (Redoute's Choice-Single's Bar, by Rory's Jester) added a Group race success when beautifully related 3YO Australian-bred filly Summer Sham (Not A Single Doubt-Hot Summer Night, by Fusaichi Pegasus) opened her stakes account with a strong front-running win in the $200,000 Gr2 Armanasco Stakes (1400m) for 3YO fillies, defeating Palazzo Vecchio & Miss Wahoo. Retained to race by her breeder Uluru Stud, Summer Sham extended her unbeaten record to 3 wins from 3 starts for $174,750 in earnings. Trainer Danny O'Brien confirmed that Summer Sham will now head to the Gr2 Kewney Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on 10 March. "She's a lightly-raced filly that's racing in really good form," O'Brien told racing.com. "She was brilliant from the gate and really gave nothing else a chance form there." O'Brien added: "The Kewney is on in a fortnight...so we're certainly going to look at that and then obviously we've got Sydney if she's still holding together." Summer Sham's third dam is the grand producer Shantha's Choice, dam of multiple champion Australian sire Redoute's Choice, and Gr1 winners Platinum Scissors & Manhattan Rain among others. This means Summer Sham is a direct descendant of celebrated blue hen Best In Show, ancestress of Hurricane Sky, Umatilla, Xaar, Al Maher, Sex Appeal (dam of stallion heavyweights Try My Best & El Gran Senor), Kentucky Oaks winner Blush With Pride, and her daughter Better Than Honour, who fetched a world-record price of US$14 million for a broodmare in 2008 and is the dam of US classic winners Rags To Riches & Jazil.
