Black Caviar, Treve, Wise Dan Top Of The Class

Thursday, 16th January 2014

Undefeated champion females Black Caviar & Treve have shared top billing in the Timeform Global Rankings for 2013 with North America's best racehorse Wise Dan, with each allotted a rating of 134. Australian superstar Black Caviar stretched her unbeaten run to 25 before being retired in April after an unblemished career. Her peak rating of 136 (recorded in 2012) makes her the joint-highest rated filly or mare aged 3+ in Timeform's 65-year history, alongside Allez France and Habibti. Arc heroine Treve also boasts a perfect record and posted her personal best mark when trouncing Europe's best by five lengths at Longchamp in October. Fortunately for racing fans, the Sheikh Joaan Al Thani-owned daughter of Motivator will remain in training in 2014 with a trip to Royal Ascot reportedly on the cards. Reigning US Horse Of The Year Wise Dan capped off another stellar year by going back-to-back in the Gr1 Breeders' Cup Classic at Santa Anita. The 7YO will match Goldikova's remarkable feat of three Breeders' Cup Mile wins if connections decide to contest the race again at the end of the year.

Snitzel Rockets To Top Of The Class

Monday, 28th October 2013

Meanwhile, the spectacular victory in Saturday's Gr1 Cox Plate by hitherto maiden galloper Shamus Award (Snitzel-Sunset Express, by Success Express) catapulted his Arrowfield Stud sire Snitzel to the top of the Australian General Sires Premiership. The $1.8 million winner's purse took his progeny's seasonal tally beyond $3 million, in the process providing Snitzel with his 16th stakes-winner and second Gr1 winner from his first four crops.  Arrowfield's chairman John Messara enthused: "This is a milestone success for Snitzel, and confirms what his statistics have been telling us for the last two seasons: that he is a major Australian sire in the making."
