At Flemington racecourse in Melbourne, Yarraman Park's highly successful Gr3-winning stallion I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit-Cannarelle, by Canny Lad) added a Group race success when 2YO Australian-bred filly Vinicunca (I Am Invincible-Xandretta, by Flying Spur) rallied strongly when challenged over the concluding stages to post a tough debut win in the $150,000 Gr3 Maribyrnong Plate (1000m) for 2YOs, defeating Art Collection & Chicago Bull. Racing in the navy and pale blue crossed silks of the Niarchos family's Flaxman Stables, Vinicunca was purchased by BBA Ireland, Tom Magnier & Flaxland Ireland for $600,000 out of the Attunga Stud draft at the 2018 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale. Her record now reads 1 win from 1 start for $90,000 in earnings. Co-trainer Adrian Bott said Vinicunca would be aimed at the feature 2YO Gr1 races such as the Golden Slipper and Blue Diamond Stakes. "She's a beautifully bred filly and obviously a very talented and exciting filly for us going forward," Bott told Network Seven. "She looked to get a little lost down the straight the first time but when she was challenged she dug deep. We might give her a break now and bring her back for one of those big targets." Vinicunca is out of the Flying Spur mare Xandretta, a half-sister to Gr1 Champagne Stakes winner Carry On Cutie.
