Afleet Alex To Castleton Lyons

Monday, 26th September 2005

Meanwhile Cash Is King Stable "is close to securing a deal with Dr Tony Ryan's Castleton Lyons Stud in Kentucky to sell the breeding rights to 3YO dual classic winner Afleet Alex (Northern Afleet-Maggy Hawk, by Hawkster)" reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Representatives of Cash Is King have toured several Kentucky stud farms & trainer Tim Ritchey confirmed the stable is pursuing a deal that will allow Afleet Alex "to continue to race next year for Cash Is King while also giving the stable an interest in the stallion prospect's stud career". Afleet Alex has not raced since winning the Gr1 Belmont Stakes on June 11; he had been preparing for the Gr1 Haskell Invitational Handicap on August 7 at Monmouth Park "when he suffered a condylar fracture of the left front cannon bone on July 26 while training at Belmont Park"; however he returned to the track on September 2 & "started galloping 2 weeks later". Ritchey noted: "He's training tremendous. He's galloping strong every day. He's eager out there & we keep moving forward." Afleet Alex won both this year's Gr1 Preakness Stakes & Gr1 Belmont Stakes, following "a troubled 3rd in the Gr1 Kentucky Derby after a convincing victory in the Gr2 Arkansas Derby': overall he has 8 wins in 12 starts for US$2,765,800 earnings.
