Shikoba Wins NZ Sir Tristram Classic

Monday, 13th February 2006

Exciting filly Shikoba (Chief Bearhart-Summary, by Tierce) made it 3 successive Gr2 triumphs when she added the NZ$100,000 Gr2 Sir Tristram Fillies Classic (2000m) for 3YO fillies at Te Rapa. Shikoba (ridden by Michael Walker for trainer Mark Walker) defeated Fancyfree (Danasinga-Girls Talk, by Festal) & Gr1-placed Everswindell (Align-Hilarion Lady, by St Hilarion). Shikoba (passed-in as a yearling for NZ$30,000 at the 2004 NZ Bloodstock Premier Sale at Karaka) had won the Listed NZ Bloodstock Canterbury Belle Stakes (1200m) at Riccarton on September 24 & then added both the Gr2 Eight Carat Classic (1600m) at Ellerslie on December 26 & Gr2 NZ Bloodstock Royal Stakes (2000m) at Ellerslie on January 1. This race was also the 8th leg in the 10-race 2006 NZ Bloodstock Filly-Of-The-Year Series & Shikoba's latest victory shot her further ahead in the series.
