Cambridge Buys Rose Of Tralee
In New Zealand, Sir Patrick Hogan's Cambridge Stud has purchased 10-year-old mare Rose Of Tralee (Sadler's Wells-Circus Ring, by High Top), dam of Stravinsky's 2005 Gr1 Victoria Oaks-winning filly Serenade Rose, in "one of the most significant broodmare purchases by a NZ stud farm for many years," reported thoroughbrednews.co.nz. Hogan confirmed: "I have secured a 3-in-1 package with not only Rose Of Tralee, but also her Stravinsky colt & she is currently in foal to Redoute's Choice." Hogan would not disclose the deal price "but it is understood to be a considerable 7-figure sum". Serenade Rose's other successes in Melbourne this season include the Gr2 Wakeful Stakes & Gr2 Edward Manifold Stakes (plus 3rd in the Gr1 1000 Guineas). Hogan did confirm Cambridge "had spent around NZ$5 million updating its broodmare band in the past 2 years", backing up his blunt comments "after the recent yearling sales at Karaka where he called upon NZ breeders to invest in new families with more modern bloodlines".
