Milk It Mick Wins US Gr1 Kilroe Mile

Monday, 6th March 2006

Despite starting from barrier 13, UK-bred 5YO Milk It Mick (Millkom-Lunar Music, by Komaite) grabbed victory by a head in a 3-way photo-finish "as the field was so bunched in a powerful stampede during the last furlong that the 1st 8 horses all ran winning-caliber races, covered by 2-lengths total" in the US$300,000 Gr1 Frank Kilroe Mile (8 furlongs on turf) for 4YOs & up at Santa Anita, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Milk It Mick (ridden by Kent Desormeaux for trainer Jim Cassidy) defeated Irish-bred US Gr2 Oak Tree Derby winner Aragorn (Giant's Causeway-Onaga, by Mr Prospector) & Kentucky-bred Chinese Dragon (Stravinsky-Fabulous Fairy, by Alydar). Overall Milk it Mick (who finished 2nd on January 22 in the Gr2 San Marcos Stakes at Santa Anita Park in his North American debut) now has 6 wins (including England's Gr1 Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket in October 2003) & 8 placings from 22 starts & earned US$598,752.
