Florida 2YOs Day-2: US$1m Indian Charlie Filly

Friday, 24th March 2006

Jimmy Gladwell (acting on behalf of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum's Darley Stable) paid US$1 million for an Indian Charlie filly (out of Robellino mare V Sign) reported thoroughbredtimes.com. The filly (bred in Florida by Antrim Oaks & consigned by Mike Mulligan's Leprechaun Racing as agent) worked 2 furlongs in 21.2sec in the pre-sale breeze-up & Gladwell commented: "We figured she'd bring between US$750,000 & US$1-million. We talked with John Ferguson (Darley's chief bloodstock advisor) earlier, of course, & Jimmy Bell (president of Darley's US operations) was here earlier in the week & really liked the filly a lot. We watched her all week & she did everything right. John usually is not keen on buying fillies at 2YO sales, but we thought she was pretty special." The US$1 million price was "the most ever for a filly at an OBS sale," noted bloodhorse.com. She is a half-sister to stakes-winner V Formation & stakes-placed Sign Of A Bird & proved a major pin-hook coup "having been purchased by Leprechaun for US$67,000 at last summer's Fasig-Tipton Kentucky yearling sale (when consigned by Denali Stud as agent)".
