$1m Yearling Wins In HK
In Hong Kong, last year's Gr1 Australian Guineas (1600m) runner-up Danehill Express (Danehill-Savana City, by New Regent) won a HK$1 million (A$166,000) Sha Tin Class 2 event (1600m on turf) at his 2nd start in that country. Danehill Express (ridden by Douglas Whyte for expatriate Australian trainer John Size) shouldered a massive 9st 6lbs to defeat fast-finishing Victory Style (carrying just 7st 8lbs) & Lotzatow. In Australia, now 4YO Danehill Express (a $1 million yearling at the 2003 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney) recorded 2 wins (including the Listed Tupperware Cup over 1400m) & 3 placings (also including the Gr1 Schweppes Cup over 1400m & Listed Zeditave Stakes over 1200m) from 9 starts for $263,150 earnings.
