Bullish Luck Wins Japan Gr1 Yasuda Kinen

Monday, 5th June 2006

In Japan yesterday, Coolmore shuttler Royal Academy (Nijinsky-Crimson Saint, by Crimson Satan) added a Gr1 triumph when Hong Kong-based 7YO gelding Bullish Luck (Royal Academy-Wild Vintage, by Alysheba) scored a 2.5-lengths victory in the US$1.86 million Gr1 Yasuda Kinen (1600m on turf & final leg of the 2006 Asian Mile Challenge) at Tokyo. Bullish Luck (ridden by Australian jockey Brett Prebble for trainer Tony Cruz) defeated last year's winning 7YO Japanese star Asakusa Den'en (Singspiel-Whitewater Affair, by Machiavellian) & 6YO fellow HK raider Joyful Winner (El Moxie-Northern Tycoon, by Last Tycoon) ridden for expatriate Australian trainer John Moore by visiting Sydney jockey Darren Beadman. The victory also earned Bullish Luck an additional US$1 million bonus for 2 wins in the 2006 4-leg Asian Mile Challenge series: he won the HK leg last month with victory in the HK$8 million (A$1.3m) Gr1 Champions Mile (1600m) at Sha Tin (for the 2nd year in succession). Overall Bullish Luck (who also finished an unlucky 4th in this Japanese race last year) now has 11 wins (5 Gr1 triumphs) from 43 starts.
