In South Africa, front-running colt Elusive Fort (Fort Wood-Ever Seeking, by Secret Prospector) snatched victory by a short-head in the 3rd leg of the South African Triple Crown, the R750,000 (A$150,000) Gr1 Daily News 2200 (2200m) for 3YOs at Greyville in Durban, reported SAHorseracing.com. Elusive Fort (ridden by Johnny Geroudis for trainer Geoff Woodruff) defeated Jagged Ice (Western Winter-Annie, by Trigger Finger) & favourite Hunting Tower (Fort Wood-Stirrup Cup, by Royal Chalice). Elusive Fort had previously won the Gr1 South African Derby (2nd leg of the series at Turffontein in Johannesburg on April 1) after finishing runner-up (to Hunting Tower) in the first leg Gr1 South African Classic (on March 4 at Turffontein); overall Elusive Fort now has 4 wins & 2 placings in 7 starts for R1.4 million (A$280,000) prize-money. He was bred by Mary Slack's Wilgerbosdrift Stud; & his sire Fort Wood (a former South African champion sire) stands privately at Mauritzfontein Stud in Kimberley.
