Wahid Aims At Cox Plate & Singapore Cup

Monday, 5th June 2006

Meanwhile part-owner Ron Stanley announced plans for this season's Gr1 NZ Derby winner Wahid (Almutawakel-Rory's Helen, by Rory's Jester) to race in Australia & then Singapore next season. Stanley (who owns Wahid with his brother Noel Stanley) told NZ Thoroughbred Marketing: "There are a lot of options for him, but the Gr1 Cox Plate in Melbourne (2040m at Moonee Valley in October) & the Gr1 Singapore Airlines International Cup (200m at Kranji next May) are 2 races he will be aimed at. He has just returned to light work after a good spell & is looking a million dollars. He is entered for the Triple Crown weight-for-age series at Hastings in the spring, but the weather will dictate our plans with him." The Allan Sharrock-trained Wahid has won 9 of his 16 starts to date for NZ$978,810 earnings.
