Chartreuse Wins NZ Castletown Stakes

Tuesday, 6th June 2006

Also in New Zealand yesterday, Brighthill Farm sire St Petersburg (Nureyev-Miss Bold Appeal, by Valid Appeal) added a juvenile black-type success when filly Chartreuse (St Petersburg-Imzadi, by Sir Tristram) blitzed the males by 4.25-lengths in the NZ$30,000 Listed NZB Castletown Stakes (1200m) for 2YOs at Foxton. Despite drawing the extreme outside barrier in the 16-horse field, Chartreuse (ridden by Michael Walker for trainers Graeme Rogerson & Stephen Autridge) defeated the geldings Pinot Grigio (O'Reilly-Chablis, by Kingmambo) & Tappy (Sandtrap-Bobby Lee, by Zabeel). Chartreuse (a NZ$3,500 yearling at the 2005 NZB Summer Sale) now has 2 wins & a runner-up from 3 starts: she finished runner-up on debut at Wanganui & then won the Listed NZB 2YO Fillies Stakes (1200m) at Te Rapa in late April.
