Friday, 9th June 2006

In New Zealand, multiple Gr1-winning 8YO sire Storming Home (Machiavellian-Try To Catch Me, by Shareef Dancer) will shuttle from his home base at Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum's Nunnery Stud in England to stand the Southern Hemisphere season at Stoney Bridge Stallion Station in Karaka for NZ$10,000+GST. Storming Home (whose 1st foals are yearlings this year) won England's 2002 Gr1 Champion Stakes at Newmarket, plus the US 2003 Gr1 Charles Whittingham Memorial Handicap at Hollywood Park & Gr1 Clement Hirsch Memorial Handicap at Santa Anita Park; in addition, he was 1st-past-the-post in the controversial US 2003 Gr1 Arlington Million Stakes, but dramatically veered to the outside just before the finish line, unseating jockey Gary Stevens (who suffered a collapsed lung & fractured vertebra) & was subsequently disqualified from the victory & relegated to 4th. Overall Storming Home won 8 of 24 starts & earned US$1,536,704. Stud owner Michael Tololi declared: "To be able to stand a stallion of such world-class quality, both in terms of performance & pedigree, as Storming Home elevates Stoney Bridge to a new level."
