Cacique Wins US Gr1 Manhattan Handicap

Tuesday, 13th June 2006

Ill-fated Coolmore shuttler & multiple champion sire Danehill (Danzig-Razyana, by His Majesty) added another international Gr1 triumph when front-running Juddmonte Farms UK-bred 5YO entire Cacique (Danehill-Hasili, by Kahyasi) scored by a head in the US$400,000 Gr1 Manhattan Handicap (10 furlongs on turf) at Belmont Park, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Cacique (ridden by Edgar Prado for trainer Bobby Frankel) defeated a pair of Irish-bred fellow 5YO entires: Canadian Gr1 winner Relaxed Gesture (Indian Ridge-Token Gesture, by Alzao) & multiple Irish Gr1 winner Grey Swallow (Daylami-Style Of Life, by The Minstrel). Last start Cacique (a full brother to champion turf females Intercontinental & Banks Hill, who both also won Gr1 races at Belmont Park, as well as sire Dansili) had finished runner-up in the Gr1 Woodford Reserve Turf Classic Stakes (9 furlongs on turf) at Churchill Downs on May 6; overall he now has 6 wins from 14 starts (including victories in France's Gr2 Prix Daniel Wildenstein over 1600m & Gr3 Prix Daphnis over 1800m as a 3YO, plus Gr3 Prix du Chemin de Fer du Nord as a 4YO) for US$812,331 earnings.
