US Sire Marked Tree Euthanased In Texas

In Texas, multiple stakes-winning 16-year-old sire Marked Tree (Forty Niner-Lazer Show, by Apalachee) was euthanased "due to the effects of laminitis" reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Marked Tree stood at JEH Stallion Station from 1995 until his death; from 349 foals in 11 crops of racing age, he produced 161 winners (including multiple stakes-winners Lightening Ball, Seven Brides & Sandia Slew) from 241 starters who have earned US$7,026,860; & he also has 19 yearlings & 1 weanling. On the track himself, Marked Tree won 4 of 11 starts & earned US$393,470; his 3 stakes victories include the 1993 Remington Park Derby & Great West Stakes (covering 8 furlongs & 70 yards in 1min 39.6sec, a track record that still stands).
