Deep Impact Wins Japan Gr1 Takarazuka

Monday, 26th June 2006

In Japan yesterday, 4YO superstar stayer Deep Impact (Sunday Silence-Wind In Her Hair, by Alzao) recorded his 4th Gr1 triumph (& 10th victory from 11 starts) when he motored home from the rear of the field to blitz his 12 rivals rivals by 4-lengths in the Gr1 Takarazuka Kinen (2200m) at Hanshin. Northern Farm-bred Deep Impact (ridden by Yutaka for trainer Yasuo Ikee) defeated Gr2-winner Narita Century (Tony Bin-Princess Liebe, by Northern Taste) & 5-time Gr2-winner Balance Of Game (Fusaichi Concorde-Hall Of Fame, by Allez Milord). This was Deep Impact's final appearance in Japan before heading to France for the Gr1 Prix De L' Arc De Triomphe on October 1. At his previous start on April 30, Deep Impact (Japan's current Horse-Of-The-Year & last season's winner of Japan's 3YO Triple Crown) had made it 9 wins & a Gr1 runner-up from 10 starts when he smashed the Kyoto track record (despite missing the start & settling last) in blitzing his rivals by 3.5-lengths to win the Gr1 Tenno Sho (Spring) over 3200m. Deep Impact is currently ranked equal 12th among the World's Top 50 Horses according to the latest official ratings from the International Federation Of Horseracing Authorities (covering the period 1 October 2005-31 March 2006).
